Assembly LET’S BEGIN • With the box upright, open the box and remove insert. • Remove second cardboard insert and all loose parts that are at the top of the tillers cradle. • Lay the box on the side and open the bottom flaps. • Return the box to an upright position and pull the box straight up. • Right throttle handle attached to tiller assembly with installed tines will be in the box cradle. • Lay everything out so you can easily identify the parts (see parts image and list on page 6).
Assembly (Continued) LOWER HANDLE ASSEMBLY (CONTINUED) 7 8 9 • Slide loop handle through bolts and over top lower left handle, then take two lock nuts and fasten them finger tight. • Slide the left loop handle into the foam grip and right loop handle. • Place the carry handle between the lower handles and line up the holes • Place two of the 1.125” bolts through holes with hex head on inside of carry handle and with two lock nuts fasten them tight with wrench and socket.
Assembly (Continued) UPPER HANDLE ASSEMBLY 1 2 • Lift the upper handle until it lines up with the lower handle. • Insert carriage bold (T42) from outside in. • Screw on knob (T12) and fully tighten the knob at the pivot point. • Cap the exposed bolt with an acorn nut (T13) and tighten with your 7/16” wrench until snug. Do not over tighten. 3 • Follow the same steps to install the other upper handle onto the other lower handle.
Mantis® XP Tiller Fueling & Starting MANTIS® XP TILLER FUELING AND OIL ONLY IMPORTANT! It is normal for your 4 stroke engine to smoke for the first minute or two of operation, however it is not necessary for this to occur every time. This is a result of the oil being pulled through the engine for lubrication. • Rock the tiller forward so that it rests on its front loop handle. • It is important to position the Mantis® XP Tiller as shown in Figure 1 so the oil will properly fill the crankcase.
Mantis® XP Tiller Fueling & Starting CORRECTIVE ACTION If you suspect the engine is overfilled the following procedure should remove the excess oil from the crankcase and valve cover. If the engine is overfilled, oil will enter the crankcase and it does not simply pour out of the oil fill opening. The excessive oil has to be pumped out as the engine runs. Checking the oil level and draining any excess between multiple 30 second running intervals will bring the oil back to the proper level. 1.

You see, when you pull your MANTIS XP Tiller backward, you give extra resistance to the tines, so they dig deeper.
Mantis® XP Tiller Operation (Continued) HOW TO SWITCH FROM TILLING TO CULTIVATING POSITION 1. First, you will need to understand that your Mantis® XP Tiller has an inner and an outer set of tines on each side of the tiller as shown in Figure 1. 2. Make sure the tiller is turned off. 3. R emove the retaining pins from the outer set of tines (Figure 2) and remove the outer tines. 4.
Mantis® XP Tiller Maintenance CLEANING THE TINES If you have a “backyard jungle,” first use a knife, pruner, or brush cutter to chop up the overgrowth. If the tines become tangled anyway, turn the engine off completely before trying to clear them. From time to time, you may want to remove the tines to get them completely clean. To do this, please follow steps 1-4 as noted under “How to Switch From Tilling to Cultivating Position” on page 13. Then, you can remove any weeds, stones, or mud from the tines.

To fold the handles down, simply loosen the lower 2-pronged knobs until you can pivot the upper handles down. (Figure 2) Or it can be hung using the handle brace. 12. Mantis® XP Tiller Maintenance (Continued) AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE A wet or dirty air filter can affect the way your engine starts, performs, and wears. So, it’s a good idea to check your air filter once a month. If you work in dusty soil, or if you want to be on the safe side – check your filter more often (for instance, before each use). But be sure to replace it at least once a year, in the spring or fall. How to Check, Clean and Change the Air Filter 1.
Mantis® XP Tiller Maintenance TRANSMISSION CARE How to Check the Grease Level Inside the Worm Gear Housing When we built your Mantis® XP Tiller, we added Lithium EP #0 grease to properly lubricate the transmission for the first 10 hours of operation. As part of the regular maintenance of your tiller, it is imperative that you inspect the grease level and add grease if necessary. This will help your tiller give you years of excellent usage.

Bienvenue dans le monde du jardinage Mantis Voici votre nouvelle motobêche MANTIS® XP...la petite merveille de légèreté qui « Change notre manière de jardiner ». Contrairement aux grosses motobêches, la motobêche MANTIS XP ne pèse que 15,9 kg (35 lbs) (modèle 7990). Elle est facile à soulever, se manie avec souplesse et bine et désherbe avec précision. En outre, contrairement aux autres petites motobêches, elle comporte des fraises en serpentin qui travaillent la terre jusqu’à 25 cm de profondeur.

Ne pas travailler sur des pentes excessivement abruptes. Ne pas tenter de dégager les fraises pendant qu’elles tournent.

Assemblage POUR COMMENCER • Placer la caisse debout, l'ouvrir et retirer l'insert. • Enlever le deuxième insert en carton et toutes les pièces détachées placées sur le dessus du socle de motobêche. • Coucher la caisse sur le côté et ouvrir le fond. • Remettre la caisse en position verticale et la tirer tout droit vers le haut. • Le socle en carton contient le guidon droit avec avec commande d'accélérateur rattaché à la motobêche équipée des fraises.
Assemblage (suite) ASSEMBLAGE DU GUIDON INFÉRIEUR (SUITE) 7 8 9 • Enfiler l'anse sur les boulons et par-dessus le montant de guidon inférieur gauche, puis poser deux écrous-freins et les serrer à la main. • Enfiler la demi-anse gauche dans la poignée en mousse et la demianse droite.
Assemblage (suite) ASSEMBLAGE DU GUIDON SUPÉRIEUR 1 2 • Relever le guidon supérieur pour l'aligner avec le guidon inférieur. • Enfiler le boulon de carrosserie (T42) depuis l'extérieur. • Poser le bouton (T12) et le serrer complètement au point d'articulation. 3 • Suivre la même méthode pour monter l’autre montant supérieur de guidon sur l'autre montant inférieur. • Utiliser le clip (T9) pour tenir le câble d'accélérateur et le fil de terre en place sur le guidon inférieur.
Plein d'essence et démarrage de la motobêche Mantis® XP PLEIN D'ESSENCE ET D'HUILE DE LA MOTOBÊCHE MANTIS® XP SEULEMENT IMPORTANT ! Il est normal que le moteur 4 temps dégage de la fumée pendant les quelques premières minutes de marche, toutefois ce n'est par forcément toujours le cas. C'est le résultat de l'aspiration d'huile à travers le moteur à des fins de graissage. • Basculer la motobêche vers l’avant pour l’appuyer sur l'anse avant.
Plein d'essence et démarrage de la motobêche Mantis® XP MESURE CORRECTIVE Si le moteur est suspecté contenir trop d’huile, la procédure suivante permet d’éliminer l’excédent d’huile du carter et du couvercle des soupapes. Si le moteur est trop rempli, l’huile entre dans le carter de vilebrequin et ne peut pas simplement être versée par l’orifice de remplissage d’huile. L’excédent d’huile doit être pompé hors du moteur durant la marche.

Veiller tout d'abord à observer que la Mantis® XP comporte un jeu intérieur et un jeu extérieur de fraises chaque côté de la motobêche, comme sur la Figure 1. 2. S'assurer que la motobêche est à l'arrêt. 3. Retirer les goupilles de retenue du jeu extérieur de fraises (Figure 2) et déposer les fraises extérieures. 4.
Entretien de la motobêche Mantis® XP NETTOYAGE DES FRAISES Si le terrain est une véritable jungle, utiliser d’abord un couteau, une cisaille de jardinier ou un coupe-broussaille pour hacher la végétation en friche. Si malgré tout les fraises s'emmêlent dans la végétation, couper complètement le moteur avant d'essayer de les dégager. De temps à autres, il est conseillé de déposer les fraises pour les nettoyer complètement.
Entretien de la motobêche Mantis® XP (suite) propre et sec. Elle peut être rangée avec le guidon déployé ou replié. Pour replier le guidon, il suffit de desserrer les boutons à ailes jusqu'à pouvoir pivoter le demiguidon supérieur. (Figure 2) Sinon, elle peut aussi être accrochée par l'entretoise de guidon. 12. Reste-t-il de l'essence de la saison précédente? Veiller à l’éliminer comme il se doit. Acheter de l’huile et de l’essence fraîches la saison suivante. 13.
Entretien de la motobêche Mantis® XP (suite) ENTRETIEN DU FILTRE À AIR Un filtre à air humide ou sale peut influer sur le démarrage, le fonctionnement et l’usure du moteur. Il est donc souhaitable de contrôler le filtre à air une fois par mois. En cas de conditions de travail poussiéreuses ou pour plus de sécurité, contrôler le filtre à air encore plus souvent (avant chaque utilisation, par exemple). Veiller à bien le changer au moins une fois par an, au printemps ou en automne.
Entretien de la motobêche Mantis® XP ENTRETIEN DU RÉDUCTEUR Vérification du niveau de graisse à l’intérieur du réducteur à vis sans fin Lors de la fabrication de la motobêche Mantis® XP, de la graisse au lithium EP n° 0 est ajoutée pour lubrifier correctement le réducteur pendant les 10 premières heures d'utilisation. Dans le cadre de l'entretien courant de la motobêche, il est impératif de contrôler le niveau de graisse et de le compléter le cas échéant.
Dépannage Problème Cause Correction 1.
