OVERVIEW MartinLogan Outdoor Living™ Foundation Music System Contents of the System: The MartinLogan Outdoor Living Foundation Music System includes 8 premium all-season outdoor speakers and 1 allseason in-ground subwoofer ideal for backyards ranging from 2,000 to 3,000 sq. ft. • (1) In-Ground Subwoofer with Canopy Made of durable UV treated ABS plastic and thick highdensity polyethylene, the Outdoor Living Foundation Music System can endure the elements while providing years of trouble-free service.
PLANNING THE SYSTEM LAYOUT The MartinLogan Outdoor Living Foundation Music System is designed to deliver seamless, and evenly distributed sound coverage in an ‘open air’ environment. The following illustration shows how a daisy chain of satellite speakers and a subwoofer should be strategically placed to create even, balanced coverage around the outdoor environment. The satellite speakers should be spaced from 6 to 10 feet (2.4 3 meters) apart for optimal coverage.
CABLE RECOMMENDATIONS We strongly recommend using burial-rated cable (not included) when installing the Outdoor Living Foundation Music System. In addition, it’s critical to use the proper speaker cable gauge. Please review the chart below.
WIRING & INSTALLATION The satellite speakers included in this system individually present a 32 ohm load to the amplifier. When 4 of them are connected on each amplifier channel in parallel, the load to the amplifier is approximately 8 ohms. The nominal impedance of the subwoofer is 8 ohms per channel. The satellites and subwoofer feature optimized internal crossovers so that the subwoofers impedance is not combined with the satellites.

WIRING & INSTALLATION (CONT’D) Preparing the 4 Conductor Burial Cable (For Stereo Setup) 9 | EN 1. Starting with the first speaker and every speaker/ sub that comes after, create a loop approximately 6” in length. 2. Recommended: Use a wire tie (not included) to keep the wire loop intact and it will act as a strain relief. 3. Use a round cable stripper to remove the outside protective cable jacket to expose the four colorcoded wires. Separate the wire loops as shown. 4.
Preparing the 2 Conductor Burial Cable (For Mono Setup) 1. Starting with the first speaker and every speaker/ sub that comes after, create a loop approximately 6” in length. 2. Recommended: Use a wire tie (not included) to keep the wire loop intact and it will act as a strain relief. 3. Use a round cable stripper to remove the outside protective cable jacket to expose the two colorcoded wires. Separate the wire loops as shown. 4.
WIRING & INSTALLATION (CONT’D) Attaching Ground Stake to Speaker & Installation 11 | EN 1. Thread the speaker’s wiring down through the ground stake and out of the wiring hole as shown. 2. To attach the speaker to the ground stake, hand thread the speaker to the ground stake. 3. By hand, push the speaker assembly into the ground. CAUTION: DO NOT use a hammer. 4. The speaker is now installed. The next step is wiring, go to the next page for instructions.
Cable Connections from Speaker to RED (+) AND BLACK (-) Burial Cable Before you start wiring, please refer to the wiring setup options on pages 6 to 8. Combine and twist (clockwise) the Red wire (as shown in the diagram) from a speaker or subwoofer to the Red wires from the burial cable. Secure these three wires using the provided siliconefilled wire connector; Repeat this procedure for the Black wires. NOTE: You may have to cut some of the speaker cable emanating from the speaker to a more manageable size.
WIRING & INSTALLATION (CONT’D) Cable Connections from Subwoofer to Burial Cable Before you start wiring, please refer to the wiring setup options on pages 6 to 8. Combine and twist (clockwise) the Red wire (as shown in the diagram) from a speaker or subwoofer to the Red wires from the burial cable. Secure these three wires using the provided siliconefilled wire connector; Repeat this procedure for the Black, Green and White wires.
TEST SYSTEM After all satellites and subwoofer connections are completed, connect the wires to your receiver or amplifier. IMPORTANT: Be sure not to let any stray ’+’ and ’-’ strands touch each other. Touching strands will cause a short circuit that could damage your amplifier. Turn your receiver or amplifier ‘On’ and test the system with your favorite music. If your system is operating properly, refill the wire trench and enjoy your new speakers.
LIMITED WARRANTY The MartinLogan® Outdoor Living Foundation Music System is warranted to be and remain free of manufacturing and/ or material defects for a period of three (3) years from the date of original purchase. Within the time period specified, repair, replacement or adjustment of parts for manufacturing and/or material defects will be free of charge to the original owner. Thermal or mechanical abuse/misuse is not covered under warranty.

RECOMMANDATIONS POUR LE CÂBLAGE Nous recommandons fortement l’utilisation d’un câble enfoui (non inclus) lors de l’installation du système d’enceintes musicales d’extérieur Outdoor Living Foundation. De plus, il est essentiel de bien choisir la jauge du câble du haut-parleur. Veuillez consulter le tableau ci-dessous.
BRANCHEMENTS ET INSTALLATION Chacun des haut-parleurs satellites inclus dans ce système délivre une charge de 32 ohms à l’amplificateur. Lorsque 4 d’entre eux sont connectés en parallèle sur chaque canal de l’amplificateur, la charge de l’amplificateur est d’environ 8 ohms. L’impédance nominale du subwoofer est de 8 ohms par canal. Les satellites et le subwoofer sont équipés de filtres internes optimisés de sorte que l’impédance du subwoofer ne soit pas combinée avec celle des satellites.

Utilisez une pince à dénuder ronde pour retirer la gaine protectrice extérieure du câble afin d’exposer les quatre fils à code de couleur.

BRANCHEMENTS ET INSTALLATION (SUITE) Fixation et installation d’un piquet de terre au haut-parleur 11 | EN 1. Faites passer le câblage du haut-parleur par le piquet de terre et faites-le sortir par le trou de câblage comme indiqué. 2. Pour fixer le hautparleur au piquet de terre, fixez-le à la main au piquet de terre. 3. A la main, poussez l’ensemble du hautparleur dans le sol. ATTENTION : N’utilisez pas de marteau. 4. Le haut-parleur est maintenant installé.
Connexions du câble du haut-parleur au câble enfoui ROUGE (+) ET NOIR (-) Avant de commencer le câblage, veuillez-vous référer aux options de configuration du câblage aux pages 6 à 7. Combinez et faites tourner (dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre) le fil rouge (comme indiqué sur le schéma) d’un haut-parleur ou d’un subwoofer vers les fils rouges du câble enfoui. Fixez ces trois fils à l’aide du connecteur de fil rempli de silicone fourni ; répétez la procédure pour les fils noirs.
BRANCHEMENTS ET INSTALLATION (SUITE) Connexions du câble du subwoofer au câble enfoui Avant de commencer le câblage, veuillez-vous référer aux options de configuration du câblage aux pages 6 à 7. Combinez et faites tourner (dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre) le fil rouge (comme indiqué sur le schéma) d’un haut-parleur ou d’un subwoofer vers les fils rouges du câble enfoui.
MISE À L’ESSAI Après avoir terminé le raccordement de tous les satellites et du subwoofer, branchez les fils à votre récepteur ou à votre amplificateur. IMPORTANT : Assurez-vous de ne laisser aucun segment “+” et “-” errant se toucher. Le contact entre eux provoquera un court-circuit qui pourrait endommager votre amplificateur. Allumez votre récepteur ou votre amplificateur et testez le système avec votre musique préférée.
LIMITES DE GARANTIE Le système d’enceintes musicales d’extérieur Outdoor Living Living Foundation de MartinLogan est garanti comme étant et demeurant exempt de défauts de fabrication et/ou de matériaux pendant une période de trois (3) ans à compter de la date d’achat initiale. Pendant la période spécifiée, la réparation, le remplacement ou l’ajustement des pièces pour des défauts de fabrication et/ou matériels seront gratuits pour le propriétaire initial.
