Installation and Finishing
I
NSTALLATION
1. Before hanging, inspect all wood stile and rail doors. Repair any noticeable marks or defects from improper storage and handling.
2. Field repairs and touch-ups are the responsibility of the installing contractor and includes, but is not limited to: filling of exposed nail or screw holes, refinishing raw surfaces resulting from job fitting, repair of scratches and marks that are job inflicted, and final
cleaning of finished surfaces.
3. Use a non-abrasive commercial cleaner designed for cleaning wood door or paneling surfaces when cleaning door surfaces. The cleanser should not leave a film residue that could build up or affect the door finish.
4. The utility or structural strength of the doors should not be compromised in fitting to the opening, in applying hardware, in preparing for louvers, lights, plants or other detailing.
5. Ensure a minimum clearance between door edges and doorframe of 1/16” on the hinge edge. The clearance should be 1/8” (+0”, -1/16”) for latch edge and top rail.
6. Verify that all hardware locations, preparations for hardware and methods of hardware attachments are appropriate for the specific door construction. Hardware manufacturers make templates for specific hardware preparation available for this purpose.
7. Any screws that are hardware attachments should have pre-drilled pilot holes. Screws that are threaded-to-the-head are required on fire-rated doors and are preferable for fastening hardware to non-rated doors.
8. A minimum of two hinges should be used for 1-3/8” doors up to 80” in height, three hinges for all doors 1-3/4” and up to 84” in height and four hinges for doors over 84” up to 96” in height.
9. Check that the door swings freely and does not stick in the frame. The finish hardware should be properly aligned to allow smooth operation and proper latching without excessive force or clearance. Adjust if necessary.
10. Ensure owner understands periodic inspection procedures for door unit wear, damage and natural deterioration as well as adjustment procedures for all hardware to ensure that it continues to function properly.
FINISHING PREPARATION
1. Treat all surfaces equally to ensure uniform moisture exposure and dimensional control.
2. Lightly block sand all surfaces in a horizontal position with 150 or 180 grit sandpaper to remove all blemishes before applying the first finishing coat. Sand with the grain to avoid cross-grain scratches.
3. To remove all dust and foreign debris after sanding, clean entire door with a soft cloth. Do not use caustic or abrasive materials.
4. Prior to staining, apply a thin coat of sanding sealer to promote a uniform appearance and avoid sharp color contrasts or blotchiness.
5. Any exposed wood surface should be sealed, including top and bottom rail ends. Hardware cutouts in exterior doors must be sealed prior to installation of hardware and exposure to weather.
6. Before finishing, adjust components as necessary. Wood panels may float. Use a wood block and hammer to carefully realign.
7. The door should be hung before finishing and then removed to finish properly. Ensure that the door is dry before finishing.
8. Follow the paint manufacturer’s finishing instructions prior to application to ensure a favorable finish will be achieved. Do not allow contact with steel wool, rusty containers or any other possible contaminate on bare wood. Note: warping, veneer checking or sun
damage can occur if dark finishes are used on doors exposed to direct sunlight.
9. Use extra care on doors with clear glass. Allow the finish to flow from wood slightly onto glass to protect glazing putty and help prevent water leakage.

0. The best base coats are oil-based primers and sealers. If a water-based primer or sealer must be used, only exterior grade products are acceptable. Note: Water-based coating should be avoided on unfinished wood since it can cause warping, veneer splits, highlight
joints and raised woodgrain. Please follow the manufacturers instructions if you must use a water-based primer or sealer.
11. Allow enough time for drying between coats. Between each coat, inspect the surface for both smoothness and color.
Exterior Finishing
S
tain and Clear Finishing
1. The first coat should be a stain-and-sealer with alkyd-resin base. Lacquer-based toner and lacquer-based finishes should not be used on exterior doors.
2. The second coat may be solvent-borne (oil-base, alkyd resin-base, polyurethane resin-base) or water-borne (latex resin-base) clear finish. For all wood exterior doors a marine-grade varnish is recommended.
3. Less frequent refinishing will be required if stain-and-clear finishes are protected from sunlight and weathering.
Paint Finish
1. Use a quality oil-based primer and at least two topcoats of oil-based or 100% exterior acrylic latex paint to seal door.
2. Inspect finish at least once a year since exterior door finishes may deteriorate with exposure to the environment. Refinish as needed. Masonite is unable to evaluate all available paints, stains or application requirements. Your paint dealer can best advise you on top-
quality finishes that are best suited to your area.
Interior Finishing
Stain and Clear Finishing
U
se a solvent-borne finish for interior doors. Lacquer-based may be used. Prior to staining, use preseal if using a brush. For best results, stains should be covered with at least two clear topcoats.
Paint Finish
Use a quality oil-based primer to seal. Two topcoats of latex or solvent-based enamel should be applied.
Warranty Information
This warranty is effective for all products manufactured or sold after October 2003.

-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Masonite warrants, subject to the conditions and restrictions contained below, that each stile and rail door manufactured and sold by Masonite shall comply with current WDMA Industry Standard I.S. 6.91 Series when such door is manufactured and
shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) years from the date of manufacture.
Should a Masonite stile and rail door fail to uphold this written war
ranty, Masonitewill, at its option, either repair the door, ship a replacement door to the distributor or person making the warranty claim in the same condition as the door originally sold to the distributor, or refund
the original purchase price paid to Masonite for the door. IN NO EVENT SHALL Masonite PAY FOR LABOR, INSTALLATION OR FINISHING OF THE REPLACEMENT OR ORIGINAL DOOR OR FOR ANY OTHER COST RELATING TO THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DOOR, ALL OF WHICH
SHALL BE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PERSON MAKING THE WARRANTY CLAIM.
NOT COVERED BY THIS LIMITED WARRANTY ARE THE FOLLOWING, WHICH SHALL NOT BE CONSIDERED DEFECTS IN MATERIAL OR WORKMANSHIP:
1. Warp for any 36” wide by 8’ high by 1 3/4” or smaller door, which does not exceed one-fourth inch in the plane of the door itself. Doors wider and/or higher are not warranted against warp;

. Frame or jamb bow or nonalignment;
3. Gloss level, texture or other appearance variations as a result of field application of paint or any other finishing material;
4. Natural wood color or texture variations;
5. Damage caused by others or any cause beyond the control of Masonite, including but not limited to damage caused by misuse, abuse, accident or mishandling or by fire, flood, earthquake, storm, tornado or other acts of nature. Broken glass is not covered.
6. Damage caused by non-compliance with the Care, Handling or Finishing Instructions provided by Masonite, damage caused by failure to perform normal homeowner maintenance, or damage caused by others than Masonite in attempting to repair the door.
7. Natural variations in color or texture of woods are not defects. We suggest that all millwork be inspected upon arrival and before installation and finishing. A good quality top coat of paint, sealer or varnish must be applied to all exposed wood surfaces. The top coat should be
a
pplied as recommended by the paint manufacturer. This warranty will not apply if a good quality top coat is not applied within thirty (30) days after purchase. It is the customer’s responsibility to properly care for and protect woodwork against moisture or excessive dryness.
This warranty will not apply if the woodwork is not so protected.
8. Installing a nonvented or combo wood storm door over the door.
9. Use of any dark color
ed paints to finish the product.
10. Overhangs or other protection must be adequate to prevent direct sunlight from touching the door for more than four hours during the day. Depending on the distance between the overhang and the door, an overhang of 3' to 5' normally is sufficient.
11. Doors should be elevated so that water does not pool or stand ar
ound the base of the door. this is a construction or engineering defect and will not be covered under this warranty.
12. Doors should not be installed where environmental conditions will result in the door being exposed to intense vibrations, high moisture, salt (i.e. costal areas), areas of extreme atmospheric heat (in excess of 120 degrees Fahrenheit) or extreme variations in temperatures.

epair or replace the product for a period of up to twelve (12) months from the date of claim or the date when the product was installed, as it is not unusual for a temporary warp condition to occur as the door adjusts
to local humidity and temperature conditions. This deferral will not be counted against the one (1) year warranty period.
Claims made under this Limited Warranty must be made within the one (1) year period of this warranty and prior to the beginning of any repair work to: Masonite Warranty Department Phone: [phone]. Claims must include the date and location of purchase, the nature of the
problem, and the name, address and telephone number of the person making the warranty claim. Masonitereserves the right to have any door which is the subject of a warranty claim field-inspected by a DorFab Service representative. Masonite must be given at least a thirty (30)
day opportunity to conduct this inspection. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY APPLIES ONLY TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF AN MASONITE DOOR OR TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE STRUCTURE INTO WHICH THE DOOR IS INSTALLED.
LIMITATIONS AND EXCLUSIONS

Instalación y acabado

NSTALACIÓN

. Antes de colgarlos, inspeccione todos montantes y los travesaños de madera de las puertas. Repare toda marca o defecto perceptible causados por un almacenamiento o manipulación inadecuados.

Acabado de pintura
1.
Utilice una pintura base al aceite de calidad y al menos dos capas de acabado de pintura para exterior

s al aceite o 100% de látex exterior de acrílico para sellar la puerta.
2.
Inspeccione el acabado al menos una vez al año, ya que los acabados de las puertas exteriores pueden deteriorarse con la exposición al medio ambiente. Renueve el acabado si es necesario. Masonite no puede evaluar todas las pinturas, tinturas o requisitos de aplicación disponibles. Su
distribuidor de pintura es quien puede aconsejarle mejor sobre los acabados de primera calidad más adecuados para su zona.
Acabado de interiores
Tintura y acabado transparente
Use un acabado al disolvente para puertas interiores. Puede usarse también un acabado lacado. Antes de teñir, use un presellado si utiliza una brocha. Para obtener los mejores resultados, las tinturas deben estar cubiertas de al menos dos capas de acabado transparentes.
Acabado de pintura
Utilice una pintura base al aceite de calidad para sellar
. Deben aplicarse dos capas de acabado de esmalte al látex o al disolvente.
Información sobre la garantía
Esta garantía tiene vigencia para todos los productos fabricados y vendidos después de octubre de 2003.
GARANTÍA LIMITADA DE 1 AÑO Masonite garantiza, sujeto a las condiciones y restricciones contenidas más abajo, que cada montante y travesaño de puerta fabricados y vendidos por Masonite, cumplirá con la Serie I.S. 6.91 de la Norma actual de la industria de WDMA (sigla en inglés de la Asociación

Si un montante y travesaño de puerta de Masonite no cumple con esta garantía escrita, Masonite, a su elección, reparará la puerta, enviará una puerta de reemplazo al distribuidor o a la persona que haga la reclamación de la garantía en el mismo estado que la puerta vendida originalmente al distribuidor,
o reembolsará el precio de compra original pagado a Masonite por la puerta. MASONITE NO PAGARÁ EN NINGÚN CASO LA MANO DE OBRA, INSTALACIÓN O ACABADO DE LA PUERTA ORIGINAL O DE REEMPLAZO NI NINGÚN OTRO GASTO RELACIONADO CON EL REEMPLAZO DE LA PUERTA, TODO
LO CUAL SERÁ RESPONSABILIDAD ÚNICAMENTE DE LA PERSONA QUE PRESENTE LA RECLAMACIÓN DE GARANTÍA. LO SIGUIENTE, QUE NO SERÁ CONSIDERADO DEFECTOS DE MATERIAL O FABRICACIÓN, NO ESTARÁ CUBIERTO POR ESTA GARANTÍA LIMITADA:
1. Alabeo para cualquier puerta de 36 pulg. (91 cm) de ancho por 8 pies (2.4 m) de alto por 1 3/4 de pulg. (4.45 cm) o más pequeña, que no exceda un cuarto de pulgada (0.63 cm) en el plano de la propia puerta.
Las puertas más anchas o altas no están garantizadas contra el alabeo;
2. El arqueado o no alineamiento del marco o la jamba;
3. Nivel de brillo, textura u otras variaciones de apariencia que resulten de la aplicación sobre el terreno de pintura o cualquier otro material de acabado;
4. Variaciones naturales del color o textura de la madera;
5.
Daño causado por otros o por cualquier causa fuera del control de Masonite, incluyendo pero no limitado al daño causado por el mal uso, uso indebido, accidente o manipulación inadecu da, o por incendio, inundación, terremoto, tormenta, tornado u otros actos de la naturaleza.

6. Daño causado por el incumplimiento de las Instrucciones de cuidado, manipulación o acabado provistas por Masonite, daño causado por no realizar el mantenimiento normal de un prop etario de vivienda, o daño causado por otros que no sean Masonite al intentar reparar la puerta.
7. Las variaciones naturales del color o textura de las maderas no son defectos. Sugerimos que se inspeccione toda la carpintería mecánica a la recepción del producto antes de la instalación y el acabado. Debe aplicarse una capa de acabado de pintura, tapaporos o barniz
de calidad a todas las superficies de madera expuestas. La capa de acabado debe aplicarse siguiendo las recomendaciones del fabricante de la pintura.Esta garantía quedará sin efecto si no se aplica una capa de acabado de buena calidad en un plazo de treinta (30) días a partir de la fecha de compra. El
cliente es responsable de cuidar adecuadamente y proteger la carpintería contra la humedad o la sequedad excesiva.

10. Aleros u otra protección deben ser adecuados prevenir luz directa del sol de tocar la puerta para más de cuatro horas durante el día. Dependiendo de la distancia entre el alero y la puerta, un alero de 3' a 5' normantllly es suficiente.
11. Las puertas se deben elevar para que agua no aúne ni se para alrededor de la base de la puerta. esto es un defecto de la construcción o la ingeniería y no se cubrirá bajo esta garantía.
12. Las puertas no se deben instalar donde condidtions ambiental tendrá como resultado la puerta siendo expuesta a vibraciones intensas, la humedad alta, sala (yo.E. áreas de costal), las áreas del calor atmosférico extremo (por encima de 120 grados Fahrenheit) o las variaciones extremas en
temperaturas.
Esta garantía quedará sin efecto si la carpintería no se protege. Si el alabeo es la no conformidad reclamada, Masonite puede aplazarla reparación o reemplazo del producto por un período de hasta doce (12) meses desde la fecha de la reclamación o la fecha en que fue instalado
el producto, ya que no es raro que ocurra un alabeo temporal al ajustarse la puerta a las condiciones locales de temperatura y humedad. Este aplazamiento no se contará como parte del período de garantía de uno (1) años.
