Find
3
 rubber bands of dierent sizes.
Load the smallest rubber band into your Torque Twister™. Rotate the Speed
Winders™ vehicle crank
5
times. Then launch it, measure the distance traveled with
a ruler or measuring tape, and record the measurement in the Test Log section.
Pick up the medium-size rubber band and load it onto your Speed Winders™
vehicle. Rotate the crank
5
times and repeat the experiment. Write down
the result.
Now do the exact same experiment using the largest rubber band.
Compare the
3
distances to see whether they are the same or not.
D
id the length of the rubber band aect how far your Speed
Winders™ vehicle traveled? How about the thickness of each
rubber band? That's because rubber bands of dierent lengths
and thicknesses have more or less STRETCH.
R
emember what we already learned about potential energy. The
more energy you store, the more is released as kinetic energy.
So more STRETCH can deliver more power to the wheels- even
when you rotate the crank the same number of times!
#2: IS BIGGER ALWAYS BETTER?
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN USE ALMOST ANY RUBBER BAND
TO POWER YOUR SPEED WINDERS™ VEHICLE?
