Quick Start
Recommended Equipment
● MAX17502FEVkit
● 7Vto60V,2ADCinputpowersupply
● Loadcapableofsinking1A
● Digitalvoltmeter(DVM)
● Functiongenerator
Procedure
TheEVkitisfullyassembledandtested.Followthesteps
belowtoverifytheboardoperation.Caution: Do not turn
on power supply until all connections are completed.
1) Set the power supply at a voltage between 7V and
60V.Disablethepowersupply.
2) Connect the positive terminal of the power supply to
the VIN PCB pad and the negative terminal to the
nearest PGND PCB pad. Connect the positive ter-
minalofthe1AloadtotheVOUTPCBpadandthe
negativeterminaltothenearestPGNDPCBpad.
3) ConnecttheDVMacrosstheVOUTPCBpadandthe
nearestPGNDPCBpad.
4) Verify that a shunt is installed across pins 1-2 on
jumperJU1.
5) Turn on the DC power supply.
6) Enabletheload.
7) Verify that the DVM displays the expected voltage.
Toturn-on/offthe part from EN/UVLO, followthesteps
below:

acrosspins1-2onjumperJU1.
2) Connect the power supply to the EV kit and turn on
thepowersupply.Setthepowersupplyatavoltage
between7Vand60V.
3) Connect the function generator output to the
EN/UVLOtestloop.
4) EN/UVLOrisingthresholdis1.24Vandfallingthresh-
old is 1.24V. Make sure that the voltage-high and
voltage-low levels of the function generator output are
greater than 1.24V and less than 1.11V, respectively.
5) While powering down the EV kit, first disconnect the
functiongeneratoroutputfromtheEN/UVLOtestloop
and then turn off the DC power supply.

Detailed Description of Hardware
The MAX17502F EV kit provides a proven design to
evaluate the MAX17502F high-efficiency, high-voltage,
synchronous step-down DC-DC converter. The EV kit
generates a fixed 5V, at load currents up to 1A, from a
7V to 60V input supply. The EV kit features a 600kHz
fixed switching frequency for optimum efficiency and
componentsize.TheEVkitfeaturesaforced-PWMcon-
trol scheme that provides constant switching-frequency
operation at all load and line conditions.
TheEVkitincludes anEN/UVLOPCB padandjumper
JU1 toenablecontrol of the converter output. An addi-
tional RESET
PCB pad is available for monitoring the
converteroutput.TheVCCPCBpadhelpsmeasurethe
internalLDOvoltage.
Soft-Start Input (SS)
The device utilizes an adjustable soft-start function to
limit inrush current during startup. The soft-start time is
adjustedbythevalueofC3,theexternalcapacitorfrom
SStoGND.To adjustthe soft-starttime,determine C3
usingthefollowingformula:
C3=5.55xt
SS
where t
SS
is the required soft-start time in milliseconds
andC3isinnanofarads.
