CONTENT BROWSER 1165
Tags (Object Manager: “File / Save Tag Preset”)
any other location dened by a module or plugin programmer.
By default, presets created by the user will be placed into the Presets / User directory, in an
appropriately named folder. From here, you can relocate them as you see t by simply creating new
preset libraries (“File / New Preset Library”) and dragging the shader presets there.
This eliminates the need to save scenes or materials if you only want to save a particular shader’s
settings. Such presets will be saved internally with the help of the Content Browser and can be
accessed again at any time. Alternatively, you can drag and drop any preset into a corresponding
Manager.
Preset libraries can be write-protected by activating the “Read Onlyoption (right-click on library). If
this option is active, items in the library cannot be deleted, renamed or added. If a library is locked,
it will be marked with a lock icon. Select the option again to restore the library to an unlocked state.
Under “Presets” you will also nd special presets that, for example, were included in the software
package you ordered from MAXON. If you want to permanently integrate these preset libraries into
CINEMA 4D, copy them to your CINEMA 4D “library/browserdirectory. If, on the other hand, you
only want to open these preset libraries temporarily, simply double click the desired le in the Content
Browser. SKY (a component of the Advanced Render module), for example, will save its weather and
cloud presets in the “Sky” directory.
Furthermore, you will nd a folder named “Defaults” in which all preset elements (objects, shaders,
materials, tags) are saved. They dene the properties of each newly created element, respectively.
Catalogs
So, what’s a catalog?
The Content Browser lets you create catalogs that contain links to scenes, images and other les.
Catalogs can contain any number of les that can be displayed by the Content Browser, i.e. known le
types as well as le types unknown to CINEMA 4D. Whereby the latter wouldn’t make much sense...
Such a catalog will be saved to your CINEMA 4D “library / browser” directory. Don’t forget that, except
for the presets, the catalog consists only of links to les. If you relocate or delete les to which these
links are directed, the links won’t work. How you can work around this dilemma is described below.
Items that cannot be located by the catalog will be displayed in gray.
Something else to keep in mind: Presets in catalogs are only links that are directed to presets saved
to the “Presets” folder. If you delete the original preset in the “Presets” folder, the catalog won’t be
able to nd it anymore.
