762 CHAPTER 17
OBJECT MANAGER 763
Lets say you activate a Render Tag in the Channel tab for a given object and assign it ID “1. If you
subsequently dene an object channel in the Multi-Pass settings with an ID of “1, an alpha channel
will be created that matches the object. This method can be used to create any number of alpha
channels.
An ID of “1can also be assigned to other objects, letting you combine a wide variety of objects that
can be output as alpha channels. Refer to the Multi-Pass chapter for more details.
Display
Shading Mode, Style, Backface Culling, Use Textures
Usually, objects use the display settings dened on the Display menu of the viewport. However, you
can override these settings for specic objects by assigning them Display tags. These objects will then
use the settings in their Display tags instead of those on the Display menu.
Display tags enable you to mix display modes within a viewport. For example, some objects may
use Gouraud Shading, others Wireframe. The main reason for using Display tags is to prevent the
viewport from slowing down you can use a detailed mode, such as Gouraud shading, for the
objects you’re currently interested in and have the other objects shaded with a less detailed mode,
such as wireframe.
Display tags are used only if Use Display Tags is enabled on the viewport’s Display menu. The option
is enabled by default.
