Seats...................................................................................................... 2-2 Seat Precautions............................................................................. 2-2 Seat................................................................................................. 2-4 Head Restraints............................
Essential Safety Equipment Seats Seat Precautions WARNING Make sure the adjustable components of a seat are locked in place: Adjustable seats and seatbacks that are not securely locked are dangerous. In a sudden stop or collision, the seat or seatback could move, causing injury. Make sure the adjustable components of the seat are locked in place by attempting to slide the seat forward and backward and rocking the seatback.
Essential Safety Equipment Seats Do not place an object such as a cushion between the seatback and your back: Putting an object such as a cushion between the seatback and your back is dangerous because you will be unable to maintain a safe driving posture and the seat belt cannot function at its full capacity in a collision, which could result in a serious accident, injury or death.
Essential Safety Equipment Seats Seat Seat Operation Seat Slide To move a seat forward or backward, raise the lever and slide the seat to the desired position and release the lever. Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward. Height Adjustment for Front Edge of Seat Bottom (Driver's Seat) To adjust the height for front edge of the seat bottom, rotate the dial to the desired position.
Essential Safety Equipment Seats Seat Warmer* The seats are electrically heated. The ignition must be switched ON. Press the seat warmer switch to illuminate the indicator light while the ignition is switched ON. The mode changes as follows each time the seat warmer switch is pressed. OFF High Mid Low WARNING Be careful when using the seat warmer: The heat from the seat warmer may be too hot for some people, as indicated below, and could cause a lowtemperature burn.
Essential Safety Equipment Seats Head Restraints Non-Adjustable Head Restraints Your vehicle is equipped with non-adjustable head restraints on the driver's and passenger's seatbacks. The non-adjustable head restraints consist of a trimmed foam covering over the upper structure of the seatbacks and are intended to help protect you and the passenger from neck injury.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and passengers always wear seat belts. (Except Mexico) All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use. The driver's seat belt has no provisions for child-restraint systems and has only an emergency locking mode.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Do not operate a vehicle with a damaged seat belt: Using a damaged seat belt is dangerous. An accident could damage the belt webbing of the seat belt in use. A damaged seat belt cannot provide adequate protection in a collision. Have an Authorized Mazda Dealer inspect all seat belt systems in use during an accident before they are used again.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Pregnant Women and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women should always wear seat belts. Ask your doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should be worn SNUGLY AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly, but never across the stomach area. Persons with serious medical conditions also should wear seat belts.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Seat Belt Fastening the Seat Belt WARNING Always wear the seat belt with it correctly routed in its guide: Wearing a seat belt without the seat belt routed in its guide is dangerous because the seat belt would not be able to provide adequate protection in an accident, which could result in serious injury.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the seat belt buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Seat Belt Warning Systems If it detects that the occupant seat belt is unfastened, the warning light or beep alerts the occupant. Refer to Warning/Indicator Lights on page 4-16. Refer to Seat Belt Warning Beep on page 7-46.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly. Pretensioners: When a collision is detected, the pretensioners deploy simultaneously with the air bags. For deployment details, refer to the SRS Air Bag Deployment Criteria (page 2-34).
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Do not modify the components or wiring, or use electronic testing devices on the pretensioner system: Modifying the components or wiring of the pretensioner system, including the use of electronic testing devices is dangerous. You could accidentally activate it or make it inoperable which would prevent it from activating in an accident. The occupants or repairers could be seriously injured.
Essential Safety Equipment Seat Belt Systems Do not use an improper extender: Using a seat belt extender that is for another person or a different vehicle or seat is dangerous. The seat belt will not provide adequate protection and the user could be seriously injured in an accident. Only use the extender provided for you and for the particular vehicle and seat. NEVER use the extender in a different vehicle or seat. If you sell your Mazda, do not leave your seat belt extender in the vehicle.
Essential Safety Equipment Child Restraint Child-Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint systems for children small enough to use them. You are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.S. and Canada. Check your local and state or provincial laws for specific requirements regarding the safety of children riding in your vehicle.
Essential Safety Equipment Child Restraint WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accidents and sudden stops, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and always keep the child-restraint system buckled down: An unsecured child-restraint system is dangerous.
Essential Safety Equipment Child Restraint (Mexico) NEVER use a rearward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an ACTIVE AIRBAG in front of it, DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY to the CHILD can occur. Vehicles with a passenger air bag have a warning label attached as shown below. The warning label reminds you not to put a rear-facing child-restraint system on the passenger seat at any time.
Essential Safety Equipment Child Restraint Seating a child in a child-restraint system on the passenger seat is dangerous under certain conditions (With Passenger Occupant Classification System): Your vehicle is equipped with passenger occupant classification sensor.
Essential Safety Equipment Child Restraint CAUTION A seat belt or child-restraint system can become very hot in a closed vehicle during warm weather. To avoid burning yourself or a child, check them before you or your child touches them. 2–19 MX-5_8EU4-EA-15D_Edition1.

When Driving Brake WARNING Do not rely completely on Hill Launch Assist (HLA): Hill Launch Assist (HLA) is an auxiliary device for accelerating from a stop on a slope. The system only operates for about two seconds and therefore, relying only on the system, when accelerating from a stop is dangerous because the vehicle may move (roll) unexpectedly and cause an accident. The vehicle could roll depending on the vehicle's load or if it is towing something.
When Driving ABS/TCS/DSC Antilock Brake System (ABS) The ABS control unit continuously monitors the speed of each wheel. If one wheel is about to lock up, the ABS responds by automatically releasing and reapplying that wheel's brake. The driver will feel a slight vibration in the brake pedal and may hear a chattering noise from the brake system. This is normal ABS system operation. Continue to depress the brake pedal without pumping the brakes.
When Driving ABS/TCS/DSC Traction Control System (TCS) The Traction Control System (TCS) enhances traction and safety by controlling engine torque and braking. When the TCS detects driving wheel slippage, it lowers engine torque and operates the brakes to prevent loss of traction. This means that on a slick surface, the engine adjusts automatically to provide optimum power to the drive wheels, limiting wheel spin and loss of traction. The warning light turns on when the system has a malfunction.
When Driving ABS/TCS/DSC Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) automatically controls braking and engine torque in conjunction with systems such as ABS and TCS to help control side slip when driving on slippery surfaces, or during sudden or evasive maneuvering, enhancing vehicle safety. Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Exterior Care The paintwork on your Mazda represents the latest technical developments in composition and methods of application. Environmental hazards, however, can harm the paint's protective properties, if proper care is not taken. Here are some examples of possible damage, with tips on how to prevent them. Etching Caused by Acid Rain or Industrial Fallout Damage Caused by Bird Dropping, Insects, or Tree Sap Occurrence Bird droppings contain acids.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Water Marks Occurrence Rain, fog, dew, and even tap water can contain harmful minerals such as salt and lime. If moisture containing these minerals settles on the vehicle and evaporates, the minerals will concentrate and harden to form white rings. The rings can damage your vehicle's finish. Prevention It is necessary to wash and wax your vehicle to preserve its finish according to the instructions in this section.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Maintaining the Finish Washing CAUTION When the wiper lever is in the position and the ignition is switched ON, the wipers may move automatically in the following cases: If the windshield above the rain sensor is touched or wiped with a cloth. CAUTION If your Mazda is damaged and needs metal parts repaired or replaced, make sure the body shop applies anticorrosion materials to all parts, both repaired and new. This will prevent them from rusting. Bright-Metal Maintenance Use tar remover to remove road tar and insects.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Aluminum Wheel Maintenance A protective coating is provided over the aluminum wheels. Special care is needed to protect this coating. CAUTION Do not use any detergent other than mild detergent. Before using any detergent, verify the ingredients. Otherwise, the product could discolor or stain the aluminum wheels. NOTE Do not use a wire brush or any abrasive cleaner, polishing compound, or solvent on aluminum wheels. They may damage the coating.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Do not get any car wax on the convertible top. If you do, remove it with a good leather cleaner or mild detergent (about 5% solution). Too much treatment on the convertible top can be as damaging as too little. Follow the manufacturer's directions. Do not overdo it! Let the convertible top dry completely before lowering after applying treatment or dressing. 1. Check the position of the drain filter with your hand from behind the bow.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Plastic Part Maintenance When cleaning the plastic lenses of the lights, do not use gasoline, kerosene, rectified spirit, paint, thinner, highly acidic detergents, or strongly alkaline detergents. Otherwise, these chemical agents can discolor or damage the surfaces resulting in a significant loss in functionality. If plastic parts become inadvertently exposed to any of these chemical agents, flush with water immediately.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Cleaning the Upholstery and Interior Trim Vinyl Remove dust and loose dirt from vinyl with a whisk broom or vacuum cleaner. Clean vinyl with a leather-and-vinyl cleaner. Leather* Remove dust and sand first using a vacuum cleaner or other means, then wipe dirt off using a soft cloth with a leather cleaner or a soft cloth soaked in mild soap. Wipe off the remaining cleaner or soap using a cloth soaked in clean water and wrung out well.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Panel When the interior panels need to be cleaned, use soft material such as a soft cloth soaked in clean water and wrung out well and lightly wipe off dirt from the surface. If a panel requires further cleaning, use the following procedure. 1. Wipe dirt off using a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent (about 5% solution). 2. Wipe off any remaining detergent using a cloth soaked in clean water and wrung out well.
Maintenance and Care Appearance Care Cleaning the Floor Mats Rubber floor mats should be cleaned with mild soap and water only. WARNING Do not use rubber cleaners, such as tire cleaner or tire shine, when cleaning rubber floor mats: Cleaning the rubber floor mats with rubber cleaning products makes the floor mats slippery. This may cause an accident when depressing the accelerator, brake, or clutch (Manual transmission) pedal or when getting in or out of the vehicle.
