Using the WinGuard Scanner

4. Choose WinGuard software management options. These options letyou
control your interaction with the WinGuard scanner. You can
• Disable the System Scan module at will. Select the System Scan
can be disabled checkboxinordertohavetheoptiontodisablethis
module. Note that Dr Solomon’s Software recommends that you
leave the System Scan module enabled for maximum protection.
Clearing this checkbox removes the Exit and System Scan items
from theWinGuard shortcut menuandthe Disable button fromthe
WinGuard Status dialog box.
TIP: To ensure that nobody else who uses your computer will
disable the WinGuard scanner, or to enforce an anti-virus
security policy among Dr Solomon’s Anti-Virus userson your
network, clear this checkbox, then protect thesettings with a
password. This will keep other users from disabling the
scanner from within the Dr Solomon’s Anti-Virus Console, or
from the WinGuard Properties dialog box. See “Configuring
the Security module” on page 161 for details.

securemode,whichdisables accessto allconfigurableoptions.

• DisplaytheWinGuardiconintheWindowssystemtray.Selectthe
Show icon in the Taskbar checkboxtohavetheWinGuardscanner
displaythisicon in thesystem tray.Theparticular state inwhich
the icon appears depends on which WinGuard modules you have
enabled. See “Understanding the WinGuard system tray icon
states” on page 103 for details.
Double-clicking the icon opens the WinGuard Status dialog box.
Right-clicking the icon displays a shortcut menu. See “Using the
WinGuard shortcut menu” on page 165 and “Tracking WinGuard
software status information” on page 172 for more details.
5. Turn onheuristic scanning. Click Advanced to open theAdvancedScan
Settings dialog box (Figure 4-11).
