Using the WinGuard Scanner
Using the WinGuard shortcut menu
TheWinGuardscanner groups severalofits common commandsina shortcut
menu associated with itssystem tray icon . Double-click this icon to display
the WinGuard Status dialog box. Right-click the icon to display these
commands:
Status. Choose this to open the WinGuard Status dialog box.
Properties. Point to this,thenchoose one ofthe moduleslistedto open the
WinGuard Properties dialog box to the property page for that module.
Quick Enable. Point to this, then choose one of the WinGuard modules
listed to activate or deactivate it. Those modules displayed in the menu
with check marks are active; those without are inactive. If you use this
method to disable a module, it stays disabled until you restart your
computer.
About. Choose this to display the WinGuard scanner’s version number
and serial number, the version number and creation date for the current
.DAT files in use, and a Network Associates copyright notice.
Exit. Choose this to stop all WinGuard modules and to unload the entire
WinGuard scanner from memory.
Disabling or stopping the WinGuard scanner
At theend ofthe DrSolomon’s Anti-Virus installation, Setup asks if you want
to enable the WinGuard scanner at that time. If you agree, the WinGuard
scanner should load into memory immediately and begin working with a
default set of options that give you basic anti-virus protection. If you do not
agree, the WinGuard scanner willload automatically thenext timeyourestart
your computer.
WhentheWinGuardscannerfirststarts,itdisplaysanicon in theWindows
system tray that indicates which ofits modules are active. To learn what each
iconstatemeans,see“Understanding the WinGuard system tray icon states”
on page 103.
Youcanstop the scanner completely, which means deactivatingallWinGuard
modules and removing the scanner from memory. The WinGuard icon will
disappear from the system tray. At that point, you may restart the scanner
only from the Dr Solomon’s Anti-Virus control panel, from the Dr Solomon’s
Anti-Virus Console,or by restartingyour computerif you have WinGuard set
to load at startup.
