• Question Mark ( ? )–a single-character placeholder. For example, you
could enter map??.bmp to exclude a range of files named map01.bmp
through map99.bmp.
Tra sh Guard also lets you select files in the Files To Exclude list and click

Utilit ie s. A protected volume file i s a sectioned-off area of the drive, sometimes
call ed a logical drive. Safe & Sound’s p rotected volume files have some very
specialcharacteristics that let Safe & Sound reconstruct backup filessector by
sector,even ifthedrive’sstandard FATisdamaged or completelylost. Infact,
filescanbelargelyreconstructedeveniflar gepartsofthedrivear eunreadable
or erased.
The prote ct e d volume f ile also includes enough information in e ac h dir e ct ory
entrytocompletelyreco nstructafile’sentiredirectorytreeevenifallitsparent
nodes are erased.
Safe & Soun d provide s internal redundancy in the protected volume file
backupsyoucreate.Itdoesthisb ymarkingeachsectorofeachfilethatitbacks
up with identifying information about the sector’s contents and the file that
sect or b elongs to. Ea ch se ctor in a protec ted volume file contains e nough
information to allo w files to be reconstructed from th eir individual sectors.
