What files are important
Safe &So und automatica lly selectsfiles that aretypically imp or tantto include
in a backup set. However, you can select other files or types of fil es to incl ude
in your backup set.
In addition, you can create multiple backup sets of data for particular
purposes. Each o f these backup sets can be created w hen and w here you
specify.Theycaneachincludeexactlythefilesortypesof fi lesthatyouchoose.
For e xample, you might crea te in dividual b ackup sets for each of your clients
if you produce d ata for clients that is stored on your computer, such as
advertising layouts, graphic images,books, or accounting data.
Frequency of backups
The more recent your bac kup set , t he happier you’ll be if yo ur PC does
encounter a problem that compromises the data on your primary drives.
However,youm aywanttokeepthedefaultWrite-behindDelayof20minutes
to give you time to recover a previous version of a file if you ever need to.
TIP: Save early, save often. While working in applications, you can

You may also want to be sure the auto-save option i s selected in your
applications for more frequent bac kups.
Creating a backup set
Creating ab ackup set, eithermanually o r to beupdated autom atically, in Safe
&Soundisveryeasy.Safe&Sound’sd efaultchoicesshouldworkfine,though
you may want t o add additional folders or file type s to your backup list.
To create a backup set:
1. Launch Safe & Sound by d oing one of the following:
• From the McAfee Utilities central wi ndow, click Prevend and
Protect. Then click Safe & Sound.
• Click Star t in the Windows taskb ar; po int to Programs. Next, s elect
M cAfee Utilities; then click Safe & Sound.
2. AfterSafe&Soundsetupwizardd ialogboxisd isplayed,clicktheNext >
button while the Create a New Backup Set radio button is selected.
3. Selectwhet he rtob ackupto aProtectedVolume F ile oraDirectory.Th e n
click Next >.
