Decrypting emails and files
When someone sends you encrypted data, you c an unscramble the contents
andverify anyappend ed signatureto make sure that thed ata originatedwith
the alleged sender and that it has not been altered.
If you are using an em ail application that is supported by the
plug-ins,y ou candecryptandverifyy ourm essages byselectingthe
appropriate o ptions fr om your application’s tool bar.
If your email application is not supported by the p lug- ins, you c an
copy the m es sage to the clipboard and perform the appropriate
functions from there. If you want to decrypt and verify file
attachments, you can do so from the Windows c lipboard. You can
also decrypt encrypted fil es stored on your comput er, and verify
signed files to ensure that they have not been tampered w ith.
You can decrypt files using PGPtools:
1. In the Windows Explorer, select the file or files that you want to decrypt.
2. Drag thefileontotheDecrypt/Verifybuttonin thePGPtoolswindow.The
PGP Enter Passphrase dialog box appears, asking you to enter your
passphrase.
3. Enter your passphrase and then click OK. If the file has been signed, a
message appears indicating whether the signature is valid.
4. Click OK.
The decrypted file i s saved in the same location as the original file.
PGPdisk
PGPdisk is a n easy-to-use encryption applicationthat enables you tos et aside
an area of disk space for storing your sensitive data. This reserved space is
used to create a file called a PG Pdisk volume.
Although it is a single file, a PG Pdisk volume serves v e ry much like a hard
disk in that it provides storage space for you r files and applicatio ns. You can
consider itasa floppy disk or an exte rna l hard disk. Touse the applications or
open the filesstored in the volume, you need to moun t it t o m ake it accessible.
