to shred any of the remaining files you specified.
• Click Cancel to return to the de sktop without shredding the listed
file or any o thers you specified.
Shredding non-file data
You can shred non-file data, w hich is any combination of free d isk space, file
slack,ordeletedfilenames,atanytime.Mostlikely,you’llwanttodothisafter
you install McAfee Utilit ies. If you a lways use McAfee S hredder instea d of
deleting files in Windows, this non-file da ta will be shredded as part of e ach
file y ou shred. So if you sometim es delete file s, you’ll want to periodic ally
shred the non-file data again.
æ IMPORTANT: After you shred non-file data, you willnot be able to
undelete any deleted f iles that utilized t h is information.
To shred non-file data:
1. Select the Erase Non-File Data radio button and click Next >.
2. Select theinformationto erase(any combination of FreeDisk Space,File
Slack, and Deleted File Names).
3. Select the drive where you want to erase the selected non-file data and
click Next >. Then click Finis h.
A message appears showing you how the non-file data erasure is
progressing.
Whentheprocessis complete,McAfee Shredder closesand return sy outo the
desktop.
McAfee Zip Manager
A zip file is a filethat has been compressed and w hich, therefore, takes up less
space than it did in its original, decomp ressed form. A zip file can contain one
ormorefiles.Thatis,youcangrouptogetherseveralfilesandzipthemtoform
a s ingle, zipped file.
