McAfee Firewall
Applications
Control applications
McAfe e Firewall monitor s network traffic to see which applications are
communicating. Depending o n your s ettings, it will allow or bloc k an
application's attempt to communicate.
Tocontrolwhichapplicationsmay communicate,click theSettingsmenuitem
and choose Applica tions.
Ifyouc hooseto"Trustallapp lications "( puttingacheckmar k inthebox),then
applications will be added to the " Trusted" list automatically and will be
allowed to communicate.
If you do not choose to "Trust all applications", as shown in the figure above,
then thefirsttimeyou run an applicationandit tries tocommu nicate, youwill
be promptedand as ked if you wantt hat applicationto communicate.You are
only prompted o nce. Known applicat ions are eith er allowe d or blocked,
depending on w hich list they have been put in.
Default settings for applications
When installed, the default setting is to prompt the user before allowing an
applicationtoc ommunicate.Thefirsttimeyourunan applicationthatusesthe
network, you will be prompted.
Ifyou choose"Yes",theapplication willbeallowedtocommunicatenormally,
as it would without McAf e e Firewall runni ng.
Ifyo uc hoose"No", the applicationwillbe blockedand willprobablyreportan
error mes sage, such as "Net work is unavailable".
If you allow an application the first time you are prompted, you may change
this a nd block it at any time: just se lect the Set tings/Applica tio ns menu item .
There,youcanmoveapplicationsintoeitherthe"Trusted"li storthe"Blocked"
list.
When you exit McAfee Firewall, y our settings are saved and w ill be the same
thenexttimeitisrun.
