It is best to choose Summary mode when setting it up for other users. The
information shown in Detail m ode is intended for the Adminst ra to r and may
reduce performance o n h igh-speed networks.
Logging Control

for intrusion attempts. This option should only be unselected if the com puter
is on a busy network and lar ge a mounts of (harmless) traf f ic fills the log file.
Configuring Applications
Th e f ollowing steps will help th e Administrator set up the Applications
portio n of t he configuration. W hile t he configuration file (CPD.SFR) i s not
intended to be transferrable, the Applications settings can be successfully
copied from one system to another. The System settings cannot.
1. Select the Settings menu item, and the Applications option on the popup
menu.
2. Donotselect"Trustallapplications"unlessyouareverysurethisiswhat
you want. When s elected, a ll appli cations are fr eely allowed to
communicate and malicious "trojans" may go unnoticed.
3. Close the Application Settings dialog box, choosing "OK".
4. Add applications you want to communicate to the "Trusted Ap plicatio ns"
list by running the application . You will be p rompted to allow the
app lication. Choose 'Yes'.
5. Once you have run the applications you want to communicate, reviewthe
Trusted and Blocked Applicat ions lists by choos ing Applicatio ns/Settings
again, as in Step (1).
6. Select the application and cl ick either Add , Remove, or Allow. Click the
Trust all applications chec k box to allow all applications displayed in the
list box.
7. Choose "OK" to close the dialog box.
8. Choose File/Save Settings if you want to write this n ew configuration to
disk immediately. N ote : the configur ation is automatically written to disk
when you exit McAf e e Firewall.
