PGP Personal Privacy
Taking shortcuts
Although you will find that PGP is easy to use, a number of shortcuts are
available to help you accom p lish your encryption tasks even quicker. For
instan ce, whileyou are manag ing your keys in the PGPkeys wind ow , youcan
presstherightm ousebuttontoperformallthenecessaryPGPfunctionsrather
than accessing them from the menu bar. You can also d rag a file containing a
key into the PGPkeys window to add it to your keyring. Keyboard shortcuts
are also available for most menu operations. These keyboard shortcuts are
shown on all the PGP menus, and other shortcuts are described in context
throughout t his manual.
From the PGPtools application
If you are using an email applicat ion that is not supp orted by the plug-ins, or
if you want to perform PGP functions from within other applicat ions, you can
encrypt and s ign, d ecrypt and verify, or securely w ipe messages and files
directly from the PGPtools window. You c an open the PGPtools window in
two ways:
• C lick Start from thedesktop window; scroll to P rograms; then PGP; and
select PGP t ools.
• D ouble-click the PGPtools icon on the system tray located on the lower
right-hand side of your desktop window.
Ifyou areworking with text orfiles, youcanencrypt, decrypt,s ign, and v e rify
byselectingthetextorfileandthendraggingitontotheappropriatebuttonin
the PGPtools window. If you are working with files, click on the appropriate
button in the PGPtools window to c hoose a file or select the Clipboard.
PGPdisk
PGPdisk is a n easy-to-use encryption applicationthat enables you tos et aside
an area of disk space for storing your sensitive data. This reserved space is
used to create a file called a PG Pdisk volume.
Although it is a single file, a PG Pdisk volume serves very much like a ha rd
disk in that it provides storage space for you r files and applicatio ns. You can
consider itasa floppy disk or an exte rna l hard disk. Touse the applications or
open the filesstored in the volume, you need to moun t it t o m ake it accessible.
