When a PGPdisk volume is mounted, you c an u se it as you would any other
disk. You c an install applications within the volume, move or sa ve your files
to the volume. When the volume is un mounted, i t is unaccessible to an yone
who does not know your secret passphrase, which is a longer version of a
password.E ven a mounted volume is protected as it it stored in encrypted
format, unless a file or application is in use . If your com puter crashes while a
volume is mounted, the volume’s content remains encrypted.
Creating a new PGPdisk volume
1. S tartPGPd isk. Click start in the Windows taskb ar,po int to program s,then
PGP. Next, select PGP disk.
2. Click New. The PG Pdisk W izard displays on y our screen. Read the
introductory i nformation.
3. Click Next; specify the name and location of t he new volume; then c lick
Save.
4. Enter the amount of space you want to reserve for the new volume in the
PGPdiskSizefield.Usewholenumbers,nodecimalpoints.Youcan usethe
arrows to increase or decrease the number displayed on the field.
5. Click the appropriate radio button to select kilobytes, megabytes, or
gigabytes. D epending on the amount of s pace available, you can create a
volume of any size bet wee n 10 0 kilobyte s and 2 gigabytes.
6. SelecttheletterofthedrivewhereyouwanttomountyourPGPdisk
volume . Click Next.
7. Enter the string of words or characters that will serve as you passphrase to
access the new volume (also called the volume’s master passphrase). To
confirm your entry, press Tab to advance to the next text box, then r eenter
the same passp hrase to confirm. The minimum s ize allow e d fo r a
passphrase is 8 characters.
As an added l evel of security, the c haracters y ou enter for the passphrase
are notvisible on the screen. However,if you wantto see thecharacters as
you type them, you ca n c lick the Hide Typing check bo x.
NOTE: Passphrase should contain more than one word, along with
spaces, numbers, and other recognizable characters. Choose something
y ou are very familiar with. It is important that you do no t forget y our
passphrase or you will lose your data.
8. Click Next.
