The Alert Manager Client configuration utility. This com ponent le ts you
choose a destination for Alert Manager “events” that VirusScan software
generates when it detects a virus or takes other noteworthy actions. You
can alsospecify a destinationdirectoryfor older-styleCentra lizedAlerting
messages, or s upplem ent either method with Desktop Managem ent
Interface (DMI) alerts sent via your DMI client software.
The ScreenScan utility. This optional component sc ans your comp u ter a s
your screen saver runs during idle periods.
The SendVirus utility. T his comp onent gives you an easy and painle ss
wa y t o submi t fil es that you believe are in f e ct ed directly t o M cAfee
anti-virus researchers. A simple wizard g uides you as you choose files to
submit, include cont act details and,if you prefer, strip out any pe rs onal or
confidential data from document files.
The E m ergency Disk creation utility. T his essential util ity helps you to
create a floppy disk that you can use to boot your c omputer into a
virus-free environment, then sc an essential system areas to r em ove any
viruses that c ould load at startup.
Command-line scanners. Thiscomponentconsists of a setof full-featured
scanners you can use to run targeted scan operations from the M S-DOS
Prompt or Command Prompt windows, or from protected MS-DOS mode.
The set includes:
SCAN.EXE, a scanner for 32-bit environments only. This is the
primary comma nd-line interface. When you run this file, it first
checks its e nvironm ent to see whether it can run by itself. If your
co mputer is runnin g in 16-bit or protected mod e, it will transfer
control to one of the other scanners.
SCANPM.EXE, a scanner for 16- and 32-bit environments. This
scanner providesyou witha fullset of scanning optionsfor 16- and
32-bit pr otected-mode DOS environments. It also includes support
for extended memory and flexible memory allocations.SCAN.EXE
willtransfercontrolto thisscannerw hen itsspecializedcapabilities
can enable your scan operation to run more efficiently.
SCAN86.EXE, ascannerfor 16-bitenvironments only. Thisscanner
includes a limited set of capabilities geared to 16-bit environments.
SCAN.EXE will transfer control to this scanner if your computer is
running in16-bitmode,butwithoutspecialmemory configurations.
BOOTSCAN.EXE, a smaller, specialized scanner for use primarily
with t he Eme rgency Disk utility. This scanner ordinari ly runs from
a floppy disk you create to provide you with a virus-free boot
environment.
