Clean and Optimize
Use McAf ee Utilit ies Clean and Optimiz e utilitie s to help you ensure
maximum performance of y our computer via easy-to-use maintenance and
optimization tools.
Cleanup Wizard
Cleanup Wizard allo ws you to reclaim space on the hard disk by helping yo u
identify file s that you no longer nee d such as duplicate files; and files that are
considered no longer useful. Once these files are id entified, Cl eanup Wizard
wa lksyouth ro ugh theprocessofeith erdeletingthefiles,compressingthefiles
or moving the files to another location so you c an save space on your
computer.
It scans y our disk o r hard drive for files that can be deleted based o n s elected
safety le vels (e.g., t empor ary file s and files int eh Recycle Bin). A list of files is
generated and displayed f or you to review and decide which files should be
deleted, moved, compressed, etc.
Disk Tune
Disk Tune optimizes your hard d isk and improves your computer’s
performance by rearranging files on your hard disk for maximum efficiency.
It defragments your Windows Swap File—the file used b y Windows to store
information temporarily sothat memory canbefreed for other applications.A
fragmented Swap F ile also affects the performance of your system.
YoushouldrunDiskTunewheneveryourdrivebecomesfragmentedbymore
than 2 or 3 percent. Wh en you start Disk Tune, it reviews your drive and
recommends the t ype of defragmentation and opt imization pro cess that you
should use.

TIP: You can monitor the fragmentation levels of your hard disk using
WinGauge’s Disk Fragmentation gauge.
If you are using Windows 98, Disk Tune le ts you use the a pplicatio n log file
that Windows 98 creat es to determ ine how applications a nd their related fi les
will be optim ally stored on your drive.
