• Disk Tune provides three verification levels: Verify (slow–ensures data
written to a new cluster can be re ad), Compare (slow est–compares a
reloc atedfile’scont e nts againsttheor iginaltoe nsureitisexactlythesame),
and None (fastest).
• OrderingbyTask–(Windows98only)W indows98trackshow ofteneachof
your programs are used and maintains this information in an application
log file. If you select the Ordering by Task o ption, Disk Tune uses t his log
file to place the mostoften used programsatthe front ofyour drive,so the
programs you use most often start as fast as possible.
NOTE: When the hard drive is organized using the Ordering by Task
option, other d efragmenters m ight see the drive as highly fragmented.
The File Placement tab
DiskTune classifiesyour disk into five regions: Top, High,Middle, Low, and
Bottom.You can group y ourfilesintofive categories:WindowsComponents,
Recently accessed programs, Recently modified files, User sp ecified f iles, and
All Other Files. There are two additional categories: Free Space and
Un movabl e files.
TIP: The o ptions you specify in the File Placement tab o nl y apply when
you run a Reorder and U nfragment.
The File Pla cement tab le ts you d ecide whe re the five file ca tegories (suc h as
WindowsComponents)shouldbe locatedin theregionsofthedisk.Normally,
you should put the programs and files you use most often at the front of the
disk (where access times are the quickest).
