Installation & Assembly

Calypso Collection Installation Instructions
Prior to Installation
Calypso Collection tiles have a TCNA variation rating of V2 - V4. Each sheet of mosaic will contain all variations of glaze color/shade within
the range on each sheet, but some sheets may exhibit a slightly different balance of variation than others. Loose field tiles (non-mesh mounted
mosaics) will also exhibit similar glaze variations. For this reason, all mosaics and field tiles must be dry-laid before installation to ensure
proper random shade variation and prevent light and dark patches due to similarly-shaded materials being installed directly adjacent to one
another.
Cutting
All cutting must be performed on a suitable wet saw with a new blade appropriate for the material. Tile nips can chip the glaze or cause it to
flake off at the cut edges, allowing moisture to infiltrate the body of the tile. After cutting, super glue MUST be applied to the cut edges of the
tile to prevent the glass from crumbling and coming loose from the backing.
Substrate
All tile products must be insstalled over a substrate suitable to the installation location. Refer to current TCNA installation guidelines for suitable
substrate materials and preperation.
Adhesive Installation: Mosaics
All mesh-mounted mosaic products must be installed using a suitable mastic for wall installations and/or thinset for flooring applications. Refer
to the current TCNA handbook for the appropriate adhesives and trowel methods for your particular installation.
Adhesive Installation: Field Tile
All ceramic and porcelain field tile products must be installed using a suitable mastic for wall installatuions and/or thinset for flooring
applications. Refer to the current TCNA handbook for the appropriate adhesives and trowel methods for your particular installation.
Sealing
All crackle-glazed ceramic, porcelain, and crackled cast glass products must be sealed with a penetrating sealer prior to grouting. If this step is
not taken, the grout will penetrate the cracks in the glaze and discolor the tile. This discoloration is not reversible. Non-crackle glaze ceramics,
metal, and non-crackled glass mosaics and field tile grout need to be sealed with a high-quality grout sealer after grout has dried completely.
Natural stone products should be sealed with a penetrating sealer after grout has dried completely.
Grout
Grout color to be specified by designer/product specifier. Grout joint widths between full sheets of mosaic products should match the factory
grout joint width within the sheet. Grout joint widths on field tiles to be specified by the designer/product specifier. Unsanded grout should be
used on all glass, metal, hand-painted, and metallic-glazed tile. Sanded or unsanded grout can be used on all non-crackle glazed ceramic and
natural stone. Refer to current TCNA installation guidelines for minimum/maximum grout joint widths depending on type of grout used. Fully-
installed and grouted material must be sealed per TCNA guidelines (including crackel-glazed materials that were sealed prior to grouting).
Limitations of Liability
Medici & Co. is not responsible for any installation and cannot replace materials due to improper installation.
