Measure the moulding strip to 8”, mark, and cut

using a miter saw.

STEP 1: MEASURE & cut moulding

On the 1 x 6 board, measure to 5-1/2”. Mark and cut.

STEP 3: cut three 2-1/2” pieces Measure the 1 x 6 board to 2-1/2”, mark, and cut. Repeat two more times so you have three 2-1/2” pieces. STEP 4: cut a 2-1/2” piece Using one of the 2-1/2” boards you just cut, measure 4”, mark, and cut. STEP 5: glue Take the other two 2-1/2” pieces and glue them upright onto the 5-1/2” piece. Clamp the pieces together and let the glue dry to take effect. STEP 6: glue back piece Glue the piece made in step 4 in between the two upright 2-1/2” pieces.

STEP 8: sand box Sand the box you made with a sanding pad. Wipe away dust with tack cloth. STEP 9: apply stain Apply a wood stain of your choice to the cutting board, box, and moulding strip. We used Varathane® Fast Dray Stain in Antique White. Wipe the excess off, and let dry. STEP 10: paint stencil Lay out the Oil Board Stencil letters to spell out “POST” on your box. Attach the letter with painter’s tape. Paint over letters and let dry.

STEP 13: mask off chalked area Once paint is dry, apply tape to inside edge of the chalked area. This will be to protect the chalkboard when we apply polyurethane later. STEP 14: glue moulding strip Glue the moulding strip underneath chalked area using wood glue. STEP 15: glue on box Glue the post box to the left of the chalked area using wood glue. STEP 16: apply polyurethane Apply two or three coats of polyurethane to the project.

STEP 18: attach hooks Using a screw driver, attach the hooks to the board. STEP 19: cut chain Cut the chain to your desired length using linesman pliers. STEP 20: spray paint chain Spray paint the chain using the metallic spray paint. Let dry, move and rotate, and spray paint the chain again several times to be sure all parts of the chain are coated. STEP 21: attach chain Attach the chain to the back of the board using a couple screws and a screwdriver.
