13 Boring Tool
Drill a hole of at least ¥ 20 mm into the workpiece, use a
drill chuck in the tailstock centre sleeve.
For hollowing out with the boring tool the workpiece is
chucked in a collet chuck or 3-/4-jaw chuck.
The revolving centre is replaced by the hollow footstock
centre. Apply a few drops of oil or carnaube wax to the
locating hole to keep the timber from scoring. Install the
workpiece between centres.
Drill locating hole as per section 9.0 of this manual, and
widen with a 60˚ countersink to fit the hollow footstock
centre.

The finished workpiece is cut from the chuck with the
parting tool. For safety reasons the parting cut must be
made at least 3 times as wide the tools’ thickness.
Replace drill chuck with boring tool, position cutter plate
of boring tool so that it cuts with 1/2 width of the cutting
edge.
