Operation Manual
Set the drive belt to the lowest spindle speed and start
the machine. With the long hole drill bit, supplied with the
hollow footstock centre, chucked in an electric drill the
hole is drilled into the workpiece. Remove drill bit at
regular intervals to help clear the bore chips from the
hole.
Note: both the lathe and the drill must be running. With
either one not running, the drill bit will not centre and can,
depending on the length of the workpiece
run out.
The drill bit must turn clockwise.
Long, small diameter workpieces must be supported to prevent vibration. The workpiece must either be already
completely turned round, or a short section must be turned round to accommodate the steadying rest’s rollers. After
installing the workpiece between centres each support roller is individually set against it, applying only very light
pressure.
15 Steadying Rest
Install template in template extrusion. The template extrusion is mounted with two toolrests to
the machine bed. Set height so that the copying chisel’s
cutter edge is on the centre line.
