Test circuit for clamp current measurement
Connecting current clamp to the instrument
Clamp current
measurement procedure
Ì Select the Clamp current function.
Ì Set limit value.
Ì Set measuring time.
Ì Connect the current clamp to the instrument (see figure above).
Ì Put the current clamp around wire(s) that has to be measured.
Ì Press the START key for measurement.
Example of clamp current measurement result
Notes:
Ì Consider any displayed warning before starting measurement!
Ì When measuring leakages neighbour magnetic fields and capacitive coupling
(especially from the L and N conductors) can disturb the results. It is
recommended that the clamp is as close as possible to the grounded surface and
away from wires and other objects under voltage or carrying current.
Ì Displayed current represents r.m.s. value for current clamp with ratio 1000:1.
Ì Use test clamp supplied by METREL or other with similar characteristics (current
output, ratio 1000:1, appropriate measurement range; consider error of test
clamp when evaluating measured results)!
Ì Current clamps Metrel A 1074 and A 1019 are suitable for use with the
instrument in range of 0.2 A ÷ 20 A. Below 0.2 A they can be used as indicator
only. They are not suitable for leakage current measurements.
Ì The only Metrel current clamp, suitable for leakage current measurements, is
A 1018 (1000 A/1 A).
