5 Measurements
5.1 Earth bond resistance
This test ensures that the connections between the protective conductor terminal in the
mains plug of the appliance and accessible conductive parts of the appliance (metal
housing) are satisfactory and of sufficiently low resistance. This test has to be
performed on Class 1 (earthed) appliances.
A high current is normally used to stress the connections under fault conditions. 200 mA
test current is used to prevent damage that may be caused by testing when using high
currents. This is often necessary when sensitive electronics such as computers and
other information technology equipment is tested.
The instrument measures the resistance between test socket PE terminal and test
probe.
