Installation Instructions

When installing VersaTILE over concrete, make sure the surface
is well cured, dimensionally stable, free of cracks (some small
cracks may be acceptable), waxy or oily films and curing com-
pounds, and that the concrete slab is even enough and thick
enough for tiling.
A crack isolation and waterproof membrane may be required. Be
sure to include expansion joints as specified.
We strongly recommend consulting a professional tile contractor,
your local codes, and the Tile Council of North America's Hand-
book for Ceramic Tile Installation before tiling outdoors. Use only
setting and grouting materials suitable for tiling outdoors.
We recommend the use of a latex fortified thinset mortar and
sanded grout for most installations. See our ‘Tiling Outdoors Tips’
for more detailed information.

Indoors
It is possible to tile with VersaTILE over an existing wood frame deck.
However, caution should be taken to use a proper backer board
substrate and membranes for installing above ground over a wood deck.
We recommend consulting a tile professional for this type of installation.
Conditions will vary from climate to climate and what may work well in
one climate may not work well in another.
Use only setting and grouting materials suitable for tiling outdoors. L

modified thinset mortar and sanded grout or some epoxy resin grouts
may be suitable for this type of installation.

For detailed information on installing ceramic tile outdoors we suggest you consult the Tile Council of North America Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation. www.tileusa.com
VersaTILE can be installed indoors in the same way, using the same
materials, and with virtually the same preparation as with other ceramic
floor tile.
Be sure to use the proper substrate for the application. For example, the
backer board and installation method selected for a dry area would be
different from that chosen for a wet or semi wet area. We recommend
the use of a latex motified thinset mortar and sanded grout for most
installations. VersaTILE can be installed both on floors and walls.
In preparation, consider the weight and height difference of tiling with a
1/2" thick tile versus thinner material. We strongly recommend consulting
a professional tile contractor, your local codes, and the Tile Council of
North America's Handbook for Ceramic Tile Installation before tiling.
