The library is based on a modified version of Speex source code and features a 16:1 compression ratio. It samples speech at 8 kHz and compresses it to a rate of 8 kbps. Storing compressed speech for playback requires approximately 1 Kbyte of memory for each second of speech.

It connects the PICmicro® MCU to the Local Area Network (LAN). It is a complete kit that is easy-touse (a PC is required for setup). Interconnection to a network can be accomplished in less than one hour. The board conforms to the standard 40-pin pinout used by the PIC16F877 or PIC18F452.
