TIP: If the application permits, always configure the Radio Control port to use two stop bits.
Communication is a little bit slower (9%) but more reliable.
Data flowing through the Control channel is indicated by two arrows. A green arrow shows data flow from
the host application to the radio and a red arrow shows data flow from the radio to the application.
TIP: If the application provides PTT (T/R) by radio control (CAT) turn this function OFF. PTT
by CAT is not reliable because RFI can prevent the radio from switching back to receive. In
addition, MK2R cannot properly handle T/R sequencing or protect the Power Amplifier and
LNA from hot switching since the radio must be keyed before MK2R can sense it.
Note: The virtual COM port assigned for radio control in Router can be shared with CW, PTT and/or
foot switch (use same virtual COM port), but sharing is not recommended unless it is specifically
supported by the application. Many applications use the control lines (RTS, CTS, DTR, DSR) for
handshaking or apply a fixed level.
In order for Router to automatically control Audio Switching and PTT keying, it must know what radio model
is connected to MK2R. To configure the radio, click the Set button for each radio.
Select your radio in the Radio
combo box. Then select the
communication speed in the Baud
rate box. Note: The baud rate must
match that of your radio. All Icom
and some Ten-Tec radios require
setting the appropriate CI-V address
(use the information from Setup
hints window). If everything is
configured properly, your radio’s
current operating frequency and
mode should be displayed.
Configure your radio parameters as
described in the Setup hints
window. These parameters are
different for each radio and can be
set in radio menu. Check your
transceiver manual for information
on configuring your radio.
The special VOICE/DIGITAL combo
box is used to automatically switch
Router and MK2R/MK2R+ between
VOICE and DIGITAL (AFSK/PSK)
operation.
TIP: Disable the auto baud function in any Icom Radio used with MK2R. Configure the radio,
Router, and your application software to operate at 9600 baud.
