Memory The following features in this device may share memory: bookmarks; image, audio, and video files; notes, sketch, and other files; contacts; e-mail messages; and applications. Use of one or more of these features may reduce the memory available for the remaining features sharing memory. Your device may display a message that the memory is full when you try to use a shared memory feature. In this case, delete some of the information or entries stored in the shared memory features before continuing.
Your Nokia internet tablet provides easy access to the internet through a wireless network connection (WiMAX and WLAN/Wi-Fi) or Bluetooth connection with compatible mobile phones. Its wide screen and portable size make it optimal for enjoying the web and internet communications away from your laptop or desktop. Touch screen Your device Your device Your compatible WiMAX access point must be compliant with the IEEE 802.16e / 2.5Ghz standard.
The task navigator (1) includes icons that you can tap to open new applications and switch between running applications. To select an option in a menu, tap it. To close the menu, tap another area of the screen. The task navigator contains the following items by default. To change the items, tap and select Settings > Control panel. In Control panel, select Panels. For more information, see the device help. First item: Web browser—Tap to access internet functions such as new browser windows and bookmarks.
—you have set an alarm. —your device is connected to another device through a USB cable. The presence icon—your presence status. To change the presence settings, tap the icon. It is visible only after you have created an account for internet call and instant messaging services. The icons are the following: • you are online • you are away • your status is not shown to others • you are offline —the level of display brightness. To adjust the display settings, tap the icon. —the volume level.
Home view Every application has the minimize and close buttons (4). When you switch on the device, the home view is displayed. The home view offers you quick and easy access to such product features as clock, internet radio, internet search, RSS feed reader, 1-touch contacts, web shortcut, tutorial and promotion applets. If you tap , the current application is hidden and the underlying application is shown. To bring the minimized application back to the top, tap its icon in the application switcher.
You can control the device in several different ways: tap the screen with the stylus or fingers; or press the scroll key and other hardware keys on the device. For more information on touch screen and hardware key interaction, see the device help named after your product. Text input methods You can enter letters, numbers, and special characters in several different ways. The virtual keyboards allow you to tap characters with the stylus or your fingers.
To begin text input with the finger keyboard, tap the text input field with your fingers. The finger keyboard opens in the full screen mode. When using the finger keyboard, use only clean hands and regularly clean the touch screen by wiping the screen gently with a dry, soft cloth. The finger keyboard displays buttons and functions similar to the other text input methods; however, not all of the special characters are available. To close the finger keyboard, tap corner of the keyboard.
Handwriting recognition To teach the device your handwriting style, tap on-screen keyboard, and select Tools > Teach.
To prevent unauthorized use of your device, change the lock code, and set the device to automatically lock after a certain time-out period. To lock the device, briefly press the power key, select Lock device > OK. If you have not set the lock code, you are asked to do so. To unlock the device, enter the lock code, and select OK. To edit the device lock settings, tap , and select Settings > Control panel. In Control panel, select Device lock.
The supported memory card formats are as follows: • miniSD card • microSD card (with an adapter) To use a memory card as additional virtual memory for running applications, do the following: 1. Tap , and select Settings > Control panel. 2. In Control panel, select Memory. 3. In Memory, select Virtual > Extend virtual memory, and the desired size for the additional memory. Additional virtual memory is always tied to the internal memory card of your device.
To rename a memory card in file manager, select File > Rename.... > To format a memory card in file manager, select > Tools > Format memory card.... All data is permanently deleted from the memory card. Back up and restore data You can back up data to a compatible external or internal memory card and restore it, if necessary. The backup appears as a folder on the memory card. You can also secure the backup with a password. To back up data, do the following: 1.
Important: To ensure that your WiMAX credentials are not lost when you update the software with the wizard, back up data before the update and restore it afterwards. For more information on the software update, check www.nokiausa.com/support. Tip: To check the version number of the current software on your device, tap , and select Settings > Control panel. In Control panel, select About product.
Search for information To search for items on your device, do the following: 1. Tap Your device To access help related to the contents of a dialog (contextsensitive help), tap the [?] button on the dialog. , and select Utilities > Search. 2. Enter a search word or multiple search words. The more search words you use, the more accurate the search results. 3. Select all items on your device, or, if needed, limit the search to e-mail messages, contacts, bookmarks, or shared media servers.
Your device allows you to access the internet either through a wireless network (WiMAX and WLAN/Wi-Fi) or a mobile phone that supports Bluetooth wireless technology. activated your account, the device starts the connection, and is displayed in the status indicator area. WiMAX connection The WiMAX account creation and activation may vary depending on your WiMAX service provider. Follow the instructions given by your service provider.
1. In Connection setup: Name and type, define the following: Note: Time-based charges may apply to the internet connections. Check with your service provider, and adjust the idle times accordingly. Connection name—Enter a descriptive name for the connection. Note: The network may also have idle timers that may cause the internet connection to break, regardless of the idle timers of the device. Select Next to proceed.
If you select No to skip the scan for WLAN networks, the following settings are shown: Network name (SSID)—Enter the name of the WLAN network. If you create an ad hoc network, ensure that the name of the network is unique. When you connect to the internet over WLAN, the connection is based on this information. If the field is dimmed and cannot be edited, the scanned SSID contains characters entered in an unknown character set, and not standard character sets (UTF-8) as the device expects.
Note: All cellular operators and settings are not listed, and some settings may also be out of date. Bluetooth wireless technology This device is compliant with Bluetooth Specification 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) supporting the following profiles: DUN (Dial-up Networking Profile), FTP (File Transfer Profile) client only, SAP (SIM Access Profile), HID (Human Interface Device Profile), SPP (Serial Port Profile), and OPP (Object Push Profile).
5. After successful pairing, the mobile operator setup wizard is presented. Use it for saving your internet connection settings. If you have already saved the settings or plan to save them later from the control panel, select Cancel. To access the setup wizard afterwards, tap and select Settings > Control panel. In Control panel, select > Tools > Cellular provider setup wizard.... 6. Select Finish to save the settings.
Prompt password at every login—Select this option if you want to enter your password every time you log on to an internet server, or if you do not want to save your password in the device. Tip: It is common in GPRS packet data networks that the access point name is internet or it is left blank, the dial-up number is *99#, and the user name and password may be left blank. For CDMA packet data network settings, contact your service provider.
To open the web browser, tap , and select Open new browser window or a bookmark. Before you can connect to the internet, you must define the proper internet connection settings. For detailed instructions, see “Connectivity settings”, p. 20. Important: Use only services that you trust and that offer adequate security and protection against harmful software.
To manage the bookmarks you saved in the device, tap , and select Manage bookmarks. In the bookmark manager, you can add, move, copy, rename, delete, and open bookmarks and folders. The bookmark folders are shown on the left, and the bookmarks in the selected folder on the right. To open a folder and a bookmark contained in it, tap the folder and tap the bookmark twice. Browse the web Manage bookmarks Your device may have preinstalled bookmarks and links for third-party internet sites.
To communicate over the internet, you must have an active network connection and registered user accounts and passwords for internet call, instant messaging, and e-mail services with service providers outside Nokia. Google Talk, or SIP account with this device, or create a new account. If you select to create a new Jabber or Google Talk account, you need an active internet connection. You can have multiple accounts for internet call and instant messaging services.
User name—Enter the user name for the account. If you are defining a Google Talk user name, enter the full user name (everything before @gmail.com). indicator area of your device shows the joint presence status for all enabled accounts. Presence status is always the same for all accounts. However, some protocols do not support all presence statuses. Password—Enter the password for the account. Your presence status can be one of the following: Verify password—Enter the password again.
To manage contact information and start communicating with your contacts, tap , and select View Contacts. The main view of the Contacts application displays contact information in two panes: the left pane lists available groups, and the right pane shows the contacts in the selected group and their presence status. To add a contact, select > Contact > New contact.... To group contacts, drag them into the desired groups. You can assign a contact to many groups, and a group can contain many contacts.
If the chat room is protected by a password, Enter password is displayed. To join the protected chat room, enter the correct password, and select OK. To write and send a chat message, tap the text field in the chat toolbar, enter the message, and tap . To add smileys to your messages, tap desired smiley. and select the To view other messages, scroll through the list. The most recent message is always displayed at the bottom of the list.
To send and receive e-mail messages, you must have an active internet connection and a registered e-mail account with a service provider. For the correct settings, contact your e-mail service provider. User name and Password—Enter your user name and password. They are needed when you log in to your mailbox. If you leave the password field empty, you are prompted for a password when you try to connect to your mailbox on the e-mail server.
Tap Next. 5. If you chose Other as your service provider in step 2, you also need to define the following settings for outgoing details: Tip: The SMTP host name or IP address may be different from the host name or IP address of the incoming server (POP3 or IMAP4). For example, when you access your internet service provider e-mail over a cellular network, you may need to use the SMTP server of the cellular network.
To retrieve the contents of a selected message, tap the message header. You can set the device to only download message headers. If the mailbox type is IMAP4, you can also download a message without attachments. To open a message, tap the header of the message twice. To disconnect from a mailbox, tap the internet connection icon on the status indicator area, and select Disconnect. The internet connection ends. To open an unread message from the task navigator, tap , and select the desired message.
Modify e-mail account Select opens. > Tools > Accounts.... The e-mail accounts page Select the account you wish to edit, and tap Edit. The account settings dialog opens. Select from the following pages: Account, User info, Incoming, and Outgoing. Contact your service provider for the correct settings. Account page Account title—Enter a title for the account. Retrieve—Select whether the device retrieves message headers only, or messages and attachments.
Use connection-specific SMTP servers:—Select if you want to use connection-specific SMTP servers for sending e-mail messages. To edit connection-specific SMTP server settings, tap Edit. You cannot edit mailbox settings when the connection to a mailbox is open. Outbox folder Messages waiting to be sent are saved temporarily in the outbox folder. The status of each message is shown next to the message header. Sent folder After a message is sent, it is moved to the sent folder.
Media player With Media player, you can listen to music and other audio files stored on your device or a compatible memory card (if inserted) and audio streams from the internet. You can also watch video clips or watch streaming videos from the internet. Through the media player, you can also stream content from available universal plug and play (UPnP) media servers. Tap , and select My selection> Media player. The application consists of two different views. To access and launch media clips, use Library.

Streaming performance depends on the bandwidth availability. The supported video file formats are: Internet radio, and select OK to save the channel. The radio channel is added to Media player > Library > Internet radio > Favorite radio channels.

To refresh all feeds or only the selected one, tap , and select the desired option. When refreshing a feed, the RSS feed reader updates it to contain all content available on the server and deletes automatically content no longer available on the server. To stop the refreshing, tap . To set the refresh method of news articles, select > Tools > Refresh feeds. To change the settings of the RSS feed reader, Tools > Settings....
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide radio navigation system that includes 24 satellites and their ground stations that monitor the operation of the satellites. Any GPS should not be used for precise location measurement, and you should never rely solely on location data from the GPS receiver for positioning or navigation. A GPS terminal receives low-power radio signals from the satellites, and measures the travel time of the signals.
If your device cannot find the satellite signal, consider the following: • If you are indoors, go outdoors to receive a better signal. • If you are outdoors, move to a more open space. • Ensure that your hand does not cover the internal receiver of your device. For the location of the receiver, see “GPS receiver”, p. 41. • Signal strength may be affected by bad weather conditions. • Establishing a GPS connection may take from a couple of seconds to several minutes.
When your GPS receiver has found satellite signals, your current location is calculated and shown on the map. The availability of location information is shown on the display with a colored GPS icon. indicates that the position is available; that the position is inaccurate or the GPS signal is not available; that there is no GPS connection. Your current location is indicated on the map with a cursor. When you browse the map, you can always zoom into your current location by tapping on the toolbar.
POIs—Enter the name of a point of interest, or select a specific point-of-interest category from the list. WGS84—Enter the WGS84 coordinates of the desired location. The found location is shown on the map as a red pin. Favorites You can store frequently used locations, like addresses or points of interest, in your favorites. To add an item to the favorites list, select an object or location on the map, and select Add to favorites from the context-sensitive menu.
Application manager With Application manager, you can install new applications and other extensions from the application catalogs (repositories) on the internet and from the inbox, web links, or File manager. You can also view and update installed packages and uninstall them. Tap , and select Settings > Application manager. Important: Only install and use applications and other software from trusted sources.
To open an applet, highlight and activate it. For more information on individual applets, see the device help. GPS location—Configure items related to GPS functionality, and view the details of your current location. Restore original settings Panels—Modify the content of the task navigator area, and rearrange the contents of the application menu ( ). To restore original factory settings, select > Tools > Restore original settings....
Calculator To access the calculator, tap Calculator. , and select Utilities > Note: This calculator has limited accuracy and is designed for simple calculations. Clock Tap , and select Utilities > File manager. The main folders are shown on the left and the subfolders and files on the right. Notes To create, save and send small notes, tap Utilities > Notes.
You can connect your device to a compatible PC with the supplied Nokia connectivity cable (USB). Use the USB cable to transfer files to a compatible memory card and to update the latest software on your device. You can also use Bluetooth connectivity to make a wireless connection to your compatible PC (for example, to transfer files). When the USB cable is connected, a memory card in your Nokia internet tablet is listed as a mass storage device on your PC, and is displayed on your internet tablet.
Your device is powered by a rechargeable battery. The battery intended for use with this device is BP-4L. This device is intended for use when supplied with power from the Nokia AC-4 and DC-4 chargers. The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times, but it will eventually wear out. When the operating and standby times are noticeably shorter than normal, replace the battery. Use only Nokia approved batteries, and recharge your battery only with Nokia approved chargers designated for this device.

Your device is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The following suggestions will help you protect your warranty coverage. • Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity, and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits. If your device does get wet, remove the battery, and allow the device to dry completely before replacing it. • Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas.
Small children Your device and its enhancements may contain small parts. Keep them out of the reach of small children. Operating environment This device meets RF exposure guidelines when used either in the normal use position or when positioned at least 2.2 centimetre (7/8 inch) away from the body. When a carry case, belt clip, or holder is used for body-worn operation, it should not contain metal and should position the device the above-stated distance from your body.
