LD-4W_en1.fm Page 5 Tuesday, June 19, 2007 4:44 PM Introduction 1. Introduction With the Nokia Bluetooth GPS Module you can determine your current position and direction easily. The GPS module uses Bluetooth wireless technology to communicate positioning information to a compatible device, such as a mobile phone or PC. To use the GPS module, you need a compatible software application on the device that you connect to it. Read this user guide carefully before using the GPS module.
LD-4W_en1.fm Page 6 Tuesday, June 19, 2007 4:44 PM Introduction If the device has been exposed to sweat or salt water, wipe it immediately with freshwater to avoid corrosion. The device must be carefully wiped dry. ■ Bluetooth wireless technology Bluetooth wireless technology allows you to connect compatible devices without cables. The GPS module and a compatible device do not need to be in line of sight, but they should be within 10 meters (33 feet) of each other.
LD-4W_en1.fm Page 7 Tuesday, June 19, 2007 4:44 PM Introduction ■ About the GPS The GPS (Global Positioning System) is a worldwide satellite-based radio navigation system. The GPS module can calculate its location to an accuracy of 10 meters (33 feet). The accuracy depends on the number of GPS satellites to which the GPS module is in a line of sight. In optimal conditions, the accuracy may be within a few meters.
