The correct temperature It is very important to set the correct temperature for storing food in the appliance. Micro-organisms will cause food which is not stored at the correct temperature to deteriorate rapidly. Temperature influences the growth rate of these micro-organisms. Reducing the temperature reduces their growth rate. To freeze fresh food and to store frozen food for a long time, a temperature of -18 °C is required. At this temperature the growth of micro-organisms is generally halted.
The correct temperature Temperature display The temperature display on the control panel always shows the required temperature. The temperature can be adjusted from: -15 °C to -32 °C The temperature display will flash if – the temperature in the appliance is not within the possible temperature range, – a different temperature is being set, – the temperature in the appliance has risen by several degrees, indicating that the appliance is warming up too much.
Alarm Your appliance has been fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the freezer cannot rise unnoticed and to avoid energy being wasted if the door is left open. Switching the alarm off early If the noise disturbs you, you can switch the alarm off early if you wish. Activating the alarm system The alarm system is always active. It does not have to be switched on manually.
Super freeze Switch the Super freeze function on before putting fresh food into the freezer. This helps food to freeze quickly and retain its nutrients, vitamins, flavours and appearance. Super freeze is not necessary: – when putting in food that is already frozen. – when freezing up to 2 kg fresh food daily. Switching on Super freeze When freezing small quantities of food in the freezer, the Super freeze function should be switched on 6 hours beforehand.
Freezing and storing food Maximum freezing capacity Storing frozen food To ensure that fresh food placed in the freezer freezes through to the core as quickly as possible, the maximum freezing capacity must not be exceeded. The maximum freezing capacity for freezing within a 24-hour period is given on the data plate: "Freezing capacity ....kg/24 hrs".
Freezing and storing food Home freezing Only freeze fresh food which is in a good condition. Hints on home freezing – The following types of food are suitable for freezing: Fresh meat, poultry, game, fish, vegetables, herbs, fresh fruit, dairy products, pastry, leftovers, egg yolks, egg whites and a range of pre-cooked meals. – The following types of food are not suitable for freezing: Grapes, lettuce, radishes, sour cream, mayonnaise, eggs in their shells, onions, whole raw apples and pears.
Freezing and storing food Before placing food in the freezer ^ When freezing more than 2 kg of fresh food, switch on the Super freeze function some time before placing the food in the freezer (see "Super freeze"). This helps food that is already in the freezer compartment to stay frozen.
Freezing and storing food Defrosting Frozen food can be defrosted in different ways: – in a microwave oven, – in an oven using the "Fan" or "Defrost" setting, Never re-freeze partially or fully defrosted food. Consume defrosted food as soon as possible as it will lose its nutritional value and spoil if left for too long. Defrosted food may only be re-frozen after it has been cooked.
Defrosting In normal use, ice and frost will form in the freezer section, e.g. on the internal walls. How much ice and frost accumulates in the appliance will depend on the following factors: – The appliance door has been opened frequently or left open for a while. – A large quantity of fresh food has been placed in the freezer at once. – There has been an increase in the humidity in the room.
Defrosting To defrost Carry out the defrosting procedure as quickly as possible if food has not been placed in another freezer. The longer the food is left out at room temperature, the faster it defrosts. Do not use a steam-cleaning appliance to aid the defrosting process. Steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. Never place electric heaters or candles etc. inside the appliance to defrost it. They will damage plastic parts.
Cleaning and care Before cleaning Make sure that water cannot get into the electronic unit or into the ventilation gaps. ^ Switch the appliance off. Do not use steam cleaning apparatus to clean the appliance. Steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit. ^ Take any frozen food out of the appliance and store it in a cool place. The data plate located inside the appliance must not be removed. It contains information which is required in the event of a service call.
Cleaning and care Ventilation gaps ^ The ventilation gaps should be cleaned regularly with a brush or vacuum cleaner. A build-up of dust will increase the energy consumption of the appliance. Door seal Do not use any oils or grease on the door seal as these will cause the seal to deteriorate and become porous over time. The door seal should be cleaned regularly with clean water, and then wiped dry with a soft cloth. After cleaning ^ Close the door.
