IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Installation This appliance is top-heavy and must be secured to prevent it from tipping forward. ~ Before installation or service, disconnect the power supply to the work area by unplugging the unit, "tripping" the circuit breaker or removing the fuse. ~ This appliance must be installed and connected in compliance with the installation instructions. ~ Installation and repair work should be performed by a Miele authorized service technician.

Before use Before using for the first time The stainless steel frames of the shelves have a protective plastic coating to prevent scratching during transportation. ^ Do not remove the plastic until the appliance has been installed. The temperature display for the refrigerator section lights up, and the interior lighting comes on when the door is opened. Bars light up in the freezer section display until the selected temperature is reached. The appliance begins cooling.
Before use Turning the appliance on/Off Activating/Deactivating the safety lock Turning the refrigerator section off The refrigerator section can be turned off separately while the freezer section remains on, e.g. during vacation. ^ Press the Super button for the freezer for approx. 5 seconds. ^ Press the On/Off button on the left side of the control panel until the temperature display for the refrigerator section goes out. The Super indicator light flashes, and ; flashes in the temperature display.
Before use Turning off for longer periods of time If the appliance is not going to be used for an extended time (for example, during a vacation) some precautions should be taken.
Setting the temperature Temperature range The temperature can be selected within the following ranges: – Refrigerator: 39°F (4° C) to 48°F (9° C). A temperature of 39°F (4° C) is recommended in the refrigerator section. Setting the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer sections The temperatures for the refrigerator and freezer sections can be set independently using the temperature selection buttons. – Freezer: 3°F (-16° C) to -15 (-26° C).
Setting the temperature Temperature displays The temperature displays flash if: During normal operation, the temperature display shows the temperature in the middle of the refrigerator section and the temperature in the warmest part of the freezer section. – a different temperature is being set, If the temperatures in the appliance are not in the possible temperature display range, dashes will flash in the temperature displays.
Setting the temperature Temperature display brightness The brightness of the temperature display is factory-set to the lowest setting. However when the door is opened, a setting is changed or an alarm is triggered, the temperature display will appear very bright. ^ Hold down the Super button for the freezer for approx. 5 seconds. The Super indicator flashes and ; flashes in the temperature display. ^ Press either of the temperature selection buttons until ^ appears in the display.
Alarm The appliance is equipped with an alarm system, to ensure that the temperature does not rise unnoticed. The alarm system is always operational, it does not need to be turned on. If the temperature becomes too warm, the alarm sounds and the temperature display for the freezer section flashes. The temperature set will determine when the alarm is triggered.
Using the Super and DynaCool functions Super function The Super function is used to rapidly reduce the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer sections to their lowest settings (depending on the room temperature). When used with the refrigerator the Super function is ideal for the rapid cooling of drinks and refrigerating large quantities of food. When used with the freezer the Super function is ideal for freezing large quantities of unfrozen food. The function should be switched on approx.
Using the Super and DynaCool functions DynaCool m DynaCool should also be selected if: If the dynamic cooling function (DynaCool) is not switched on, the natural circulation of air throughout the appliance can create different temperature zones in the refrigerator section, with the colder, heavier air sinking to the lowest section. See "Using the refrigerator efficiently". – the room temperature is high (above approx.
Using the refrigerator efficiently Different storage zones Coldest area Due to the natural circulation of air in the appliance, there are different temperature zones in the refrigerator. Cold, heavy air sinks to the lowest section of the appliance. Make use of these different zones when placing food in the appliance. The coldest area in the refrigerator section is directly above the fruit and vegetable drawers.
Using the freezer efficiently Maximum freezing capacity Placing food in the freezer To ensure that food is frozen thoroughly, the maximum freezing capacity should not be exceeded. See the data plate: "Freezing capacity.....lb/kg/24 hrs". Food to be frozen can be placed anywhere in the freezer section. Freezing food Fresh food should be frozen as quickly as possible. This helps maintain the nutritional value, vitamin content, appearance and taste of the food.
Using the freezer efficiently Freezing large items Defrosting If you would like to freeze large items e.g. turkey or ham, the glass plates between the drawers can be removed. Frozen food can be defrosted in different ways: ^ Remove the top full-width freezer drawer, and carefully lift and slide out the glass plates.
Using the freezer efficiently Cooling drinks quickly Cool pack To cool drinks quickly, turn on the Super function for the freezer. See "Super" for more information. The cool pack prevents the temperature in the freezer from rising too quickly in the event of a power failure. Do not leave bottles in the freezer for more than 1 hour, closed containers could burst. Freezer tray The freezer tray can be used to freeze small items such as berries, herbs and vegetables.
Automatic defrosting Refrigerator section Freezer section The refrigerator defrosts automatically. The freezer defrosts automatically. During normal operation, condensate and frost can form on the rear wall of the refrigerator and drawers. You do not need to remove this build-up, it will defrost and evaporate automatically with the heat generated by the appliance.
Adjusting the interior fittings Moving the shelves To move the split shelf: The shelves can be adjusted according to the height of the food: ^ Remove both halves of the glass. ^ Lift the shelf, pull it forwards slightly, until the notch at the side is in line with the shelf support. It can now be moved up or down as desired. The raised edge at the back of the shelf must face upwards to prevent food from touching the back of the appliance.
Adjusting the interior fittings Moving the adjustable door shelves ^ Lift the shelf up and out of the stainless steel frame. ^ Push the stainless steel frame up and remove, by pulling it forward. ^ Replace the frame at the desired height. Ensure that it is securely pushed back into position. Universal container Food can be stored as well as served in the universal container. The universal container consists of a deep tray a and a shallow tray b. Both trays can be fit into the stainless steel frame.
Cleaning and Care Before cleaning To reduce the risk of electrical shock, disconnect the appliance from the power supply by shutting off the power main, tripping the circuit breaker or unplugging the power cord before maintenance. ^ Turn off the appliance by pressing the main switch on the right side of the control panel. Never use cleaning agents containing abrasive substances such as sand, soda, acids, chlorides or chemical solvents.
Cleaning and Care Ventilation slits ^ Check the ventilation slits regularly. Remove any dirt/dust with a vacuum cleaner or brush. Clean as needed. Door seal Do not use oil or grease on the door seals. This may cause the seals to deteriorate and become porous over time. ^ Clean the door seals with warm water and dry thoroughly After cleaning ^ Return all shelves, drawers and accessories.

The suction caused by opening and closing the door too many times in succession prevents it from opening. Wait a few minutes, then try again. It should now open without force. The compressor kicks on very frequently and for too long. The ventilation slits are covered or dusty. Clean with a vacuum or brush.

In multi-zone and frost-free appliances, the movement of air circulating through the appliance can sometimes just barely be heard.

Installation Ventilation Before installation The air at the rear wall of the appliance gets warm. Therefore sufficient space must be provided around the appliance for ventilation. ^ Remove the cover strip, the sealing strip and other accessories from the inside and from the exterior rear wall of the appliance. A ventilation gap of at least 1 1/2" (38 mm) must be provided behind the appliance. The air intake to the appliance is made through the base of the installation niche.

Adjusting the door hinges The door hinges are pre-adjusted so that the appliance doors can be opened wide. By adjusting the hinges the doors' can be modified so they do not open as far. If you would like to cushion the doors for a more gentle opening, you can increase the spring force of the appliance door: For example, when the door is opened if an adjacent wall or piece of furniture is in the way, the door angle should be limited to 90°. ^ Insert the pins (supplied) into the hinges from above.
Adjusting the door hinges Before installing the appliance, you will need to decide which side of the door you would like hinged. For and left-handed door hinge, follow the instructions below. Tools needed: – a Philips head screwdriver, – a flathead screwdriver, – various sizes of Torx screwdrivers, ^ Slightly loosen the fastening screws e at the top, middle and bottom. ^ Slide the appliance doors outwards and unhinge them. ^ Completely unscrew the fixing screws e.
Adjusting the door hinges Removing the door closing device ^ With its exterior facing downwards, place the appliance door on a stable surface. ^ Leave the hinges open and remove the screw in the mounting a. Caution! When uninstalled, the door closing device will snap shut. ^ Loosen the ball joint b using an open ended wrench. ^ Remove the door closing device c together with the ball joint. Do not remove the door closing device from the ball joint! This will damage the device.
Adjusting the door hinges Fastening the dampers ^ With its exterior facing downwards, again place the appliance door on a stable surface. ^ Screw the ball joint b of the door closing device c into the new fixing hole. ^ Pull the door closing device c apart and hook the mounting a onto the hinge. ^ Hold the door closing device in this position and screw the mounting a to the hinge. ^ Hang the appliance doors on the pre-fitted screws and push the doors inward.
Installing the appliance The following installation instructions are for a right-hinged appliance door. If you have converted the appliance door to be left-hinged, you will need to adapt the instructions accordingly. Tools needed: Installing the appliance as a room divider If you wish to install the appliance as a room divider, the back of the installation niche must be fitted with a panel, so the back of the appliance is not exposed.
Installing the appliance Preparing the appliance ^ Push the appliance two-thirds of the way into the installation niche. Ensure that the power cord does not get caught. ^ Slide the cover strip a (nobs facing downwards) into the holder. The nobs will fit into the holes b. ^ Ensure that the power cord can be easily plugged in once the appliance is installed. ^ For 16 mm cabinetry walls only: Clip the spacers e and f onto the upper and lower hinges.
Installing the appliance ^ Open the appliance doors. Installing the appliance ^ Using the screws h (M5 x 22), screw the plastic bracket g to the door opening. Depending on the thickness of the niche walls, push the appliance in until : ^ Using the screws j, loosely secure the fixing bracket i onto the appliance. ^ If necessary, shorten the sealing strip k to match the height of the niche. Remove the protective film.
Installing the appliance This space must also be taken into account with cabinetry that has a receding base, even if it means that the plastic bracket d will project beyond the base of the cabinetry. Attaching the appliance to the installation niche ^ If the cabinetry has door stops (i.e. to protect from slamming): pull the appliance forward by distance h so that a space of 1 5/8" (42 mm) is created. The hinges now project by distance h and the plastic bracket d lines up with the front edge of the hinge.
Installing the appliance Mounting the custom door panels ^ Screw the screw c through the fixing bracket d. ^ Push the bracket towards the niche wall and tighten the screws e. ^ Close the bracket f. ^ Close the appliance doors. ^ Set a gap of 5/16" (8 mm) between the appliance door and the fixing bracket a.
Installing the appliance ^ With a pencil, lightly mark a line down the center of the inside of the custom door. ^ Hang the fixing bracket d with the mounting aids on the inside of the custom door. Align the bracket centrally. ^ Secure the fixing bracket with at least 6 screws e (4 x 14 mm). (For framed doors, use only 4 screws at the edge). ^ Carefully pull the mounting aids up and out f. ^ Turn them around, and fit them into the middle slots of the fixing bracket g for safe keeping.
Installing the appliance Securing the appliance door to the custom door panel ^ Secure the fixing bracket using the pre-drilled holes a using the (4 x 14 mm) screws b. Ensure that the two metal edges are flush (symbol //). – Align depth Z on the custom door: Loosen the screws at the top of the appliance doors c and the bottom of the fixing bracket d. Adjust the custom door to create a space of 1/16" (2 mm) between the custom door and the front edge of the niche.
Installing the appliance The following confirms that the appliance is installed correctly: – The doors close properly. – The doors do not touch the cabinetry. – The seal at the upper corner of the hinged-side contacts tightly. ^ To verify this, place a flashlight in the appliance and close the appliance doors. Turn off the lights and check whether the light is visible from inside the appliance. If light is seen, check the individual installation steps again. ^ Replace the upper cover k.
