Miele appliances have longer lives
Our philosophy is to make appliances that will last way into the
future, so we have a vested interest in ensuring that there is a
future for them to be around in. The longevity of Miele appliances
in itself is a major contribution to the idea of conserving resources
and economizing raw materials. The equation is a simple one:
the longer the operating life of a product, the less likely the
need for new materials and the energy required in producing a
replacement.
A commitment to our future
The long life of Miele appliances is legendary and so too is our
commitment to making sure that we take care of our environment.
Our Research and Development teams are continually striving to
improve the performance of our appliances at the same time as
conserving resources and economizing on the raw materials used.
Reducing packaging
When it comes to packaging, our motto is “as much as necessary,
but as little as possible”. Naturally we make it as environmentally
friendly as we can, and all our packaging is designed to be
recyclable.
Committed to the environment
Miele was the first appliance manufacturer worldwide to receive
the Environment Standard DIN EN ISO 14001 certification for all
its factories.
Reduced consumption – Increased performance
The electricity and water consumption of household appliances
have been continually reduced, whilst their performance and
convenience has been increased. In the case of domestic washing
machines, the water consumption has been reduced by 42.4%
since 1990, whilst the electricity consumption has been reduced
by 29.2%.
CFC and HFC free
The insulation material and coolants used in Miele’s refrigeration
products were converted to CFC-free and HFC-free materials long
before European guidelines on banning CFCs and HFCs came into
force.
In Miele’s refrigeration products, the harmful substances
previously used in the insulation material have been replaced with
pentane, and the coolant used now is isobutene R600a. This is an
environmentally friendly, natural gas which does not damage the
ozone layer or increase the greenhouse effect.
Energy labelling
In many homes, refrigerators and freezers tend to account for
a fifth of our household energy consumption. When purchasing
a new appliance, it is always a good idea to look for the most
energy-efficient model that suits your needs.
In Hong Kong, refrigerating manufacturers are required to label
their products with an energy label. The label indicates the grade
of efficiency with grade 1 being most efficient, as well as the actual
energy consumption with a lower value being more efficient.
Caring Company
The Caring Company Scheme is launched by Hong Kong Council
of Social Service and funded by HKSAR Government. Over the
years, it has gained widespread support from local business and
the public. The Caring Company Logo is awarded to recognize
private companies which demonstrate good corporate citizenship.
Miele is proud to have recieved the award for our contribution to
the community, our employees and environment.
Productwi$e
The Productwi$e Label is a recognition scheme established to
recognize efforts and honour successes in reducing environmental
impact arising across products’ life-cycle; and promote products
with less environmental impacts that are available in Hong Kong
market.
We are proud to be the only in the industry to have obtained this
award as of 31 December, 2009.
