Suitable containers for microwave ovens
26
Testing containers
If in doubt as to whether glass, earthen-
ware or porcelain plates or dishes are
suitable for use in a microwave oven, a
simple test can be performed:
Place the item you wish to test in the
centre of the oven.
Close the door.
Turn the power selector to 900W.
Enter a duration of 30seconds with
the time selector.
Press the Start button.
If a crackling noise is heard accom-
panied by sparks during the test,
switch the appliance off immediately
(touch Stop/C twice)! Any crockery
which causes this reaction is unsuit-
able for use with microwave power. If
any doubt exists about the suitability
of containers, please contact the
supplier.
This test cannot be used to check
whether items with hollow knobs or
handles are suitable for use with
microwave power.
A heat-retaining cover
- prevents too much steam escaping,
especially when cooking foods with
longer reheating times.
- speeds up the reheating process.
- prevents food from drying out.
- helps keep the oven compartment
clean.
When using Microwave Solo mode,
always cover food with a microwave-
safe heat-retaining cover.
Suitable heat-retaining covers are avail-
able from retail outlets.
You can use a cling film recommended
for use in a microwave oven instead of
the heat-retaining cover. Heat can
cause normal cling film to distort and
fuse with the food.
