Caring for the environment Disposal of the packing material Disposing of your old appliance The packaging is designed to protect the appliance from damage during transportation. The packaging materials used are selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal and should be recycled. Electrical and electronic appliances often contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, compounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety.
Warning and Safety instructions This washing machine complies with current safety requirements. Inappropriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage to property. To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the machine, please read these instructions carefully before using it for the first time. They contain important information on its safety, use and maintenance. Keep these instructions in a safe place and ensure that new users are familiar with the content. Pass them on to any future user.
Warning and Safety instructions Safety with children Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the washing machine unless they are constantly supervised. Children 8 years and older may only use the washing machine unsupervised if they have been shown how to use it safely and recognise and understand the consequences of incorrect operation. Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the washing machine unsupervised.
Warning and Safety instructions The electrical safety of this washing machine can only be guaranteed when correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety requirement is met. If in any doubt, please have the wiring system of the building tested by a qualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequate earthing system (e.g. electric shock).
Warning and Safety instructions The machine must be isolated from the electricity supply when cleaning and maintaining the machine and in the event of a fault. The machine must only be connected to the on-site water supply using a new hose kit. Old hose kits must not be re-used. Check the condition of the hoses regularly so that you can replace them in good time and avoid the risk of any water damage. The water flow pressure must be at least 100 kPa and should not exceed 1000 kPa.
Warning and Safety instructions Correct use Do not install the washing machine in a room where there is a risk of frost. Frozen hoses may burst or split. The reliability of the electronic control unit may be impaired at temperatures below freezing point. Before using the machine for the first time, check that the transit bars at the rear of the machine have been removed (see “Installation and connection - Removing the transit bars”).
Warning and Safety instructions Take care when opening the drum door after using the steam function. Danger of burning due to escaping steam and the high temperature of the surface of the drum as well as the porthole glass. Stand back away from the machine and wait until the steam has dissipated. The maximum load for this washing machine is 9 kg (dry weight). See the “Programme chart” for the maximum recommended loads for individual programmes.
Warning and Safety instructions Colour run and dye removers contain sulphur compounds which can cause damage such as corrosion. Do not use these products in this machine. If detergent comes into contact with the eyes, rinse them thoroughly with lukewarm water immediately. If swallowed, seek medical assistance immediately and retain the packaging or label for reference. Those with skin problems or sensitive skin should avoid their skin coming into contact with detergent.
Operating the washing machine Control panel a Control field The control field consists of a display and various sensor controls. The individual sensors are explained in the following sections. b Display The following values are shown on the display and/or selected from it: 1. The temperature, spin speed, and time left for the selected wash programme. 2. The individual values for selected extras and settings. c sensors Values shown in the display can be changed with the sensors.
Operating the washing machine h sensor The sensor starts the delay start function. With Delay start you can delay the start of the programme. The start of the programme can be delayed from 15 minutes up to a maximum of 24 hours. This allows you to make use of night-time economy electricity rates, for example. Please see “Delay start” for more information. i Start/Stop sensor Touching the Start/Stop sensor starts the selected programme or cancels a programme that has already been started.
Operating the washing machine Setting numerical values Display The standard display shows the following from left to right: 1600 2:59 OK – the selected wash temperature – the selected spin speed – the programme duration Start in 00 :00 h The numerical value is highlighted in white. Touching the sensor decreases the value. Touching the sensor increases the value. The OK sensor is used to activate the value shown in the display.

Remove the transit bars as described in “Installation and connection”. The calibration programme then starts. It will take approximately 2 hours.
Washing environmentally and economically Energy and water consumption Detergent – To get the most out of your machine, load the maximum dry load for the programme you are using. The energy and water consumption will be the lowest in relation to the size of the load. – Do not exceed the amounts of detergent recommended by the manufacturer on the packaging. – When smaller amounts of laundry are washed, the automatic load control system will reduce the amount of water and energy used.
1. Prepare the laundry Tip: Badly soiled areas can be pretreated with liquid detergent, stain removers etc. first, following the manufacturer's instructions. With particularly stubborn stains ask your dry cleaner for advice. Solvent-based cleaners (e.g. Empty all pockets. Foreign objects (e.g. nails, coins, paper clips, etc.) can cause damage to garments and to components in the machine. Check the laundry before washing and remove any foreign objects.
2. Select a programme Switching on the washing machine Turn the programme selector to a programme. 2. Select additional programmes by setting the programme selector to the “Further programmes/” position and using the display: Programme selection 1. Select standard programmes with the programme selector dial Turn the programme selector to the Further programmes/ position. The following appears in the display: Turn the programme selector to the required programme.
3. Load the washing machine Open the door Close the door Take hold of the door and pull it open. Make sure that no items are caught between the door and the seal. Check the drum for pets or foreign objects before loading it with laundry. The most efficient use of energy and water is achieved when a full load is washed. However, do not overload as this reduces cleaning efficiency and causes creases. Unfold the laundry and load loosely into the drum.
4. Select programme settings Selecting a temperature/spin speed You can alter the pre-set temperature/ spin speed of a wash programme, if this option is permitted for that programme. 1600 2:59 OK Touch the sensors above or below the temperature or spin speed value in the display until the temperature/spin speed you want appears in the display. Extras sensor control You can select additional extras using the Extras sensor. Touch the Extras sensor.
4. Select programme settings Cancelling delay start Delay start The selected delay start time can be cancelled before the programme starts. With Delay start you can delay the start of the programme. The hours can be set from 00 to 24. The minutes can be set in 15 minute increments from 00 to 45. Touch the sensor. The following will appear in the display: 00 :00 h OK Set the hours with the sensors. Confirm with the OK sensor.
5. Add detergent There are several options for adding detergent. Adding fabric conditioner Detergent dispenser drawer Any detergent suitable for automatic front loading washing machines can be used. Please observe the instructions for use and dosage on the detergent packaging. Adding detergent Add fabric conditioner or liquid starch to the compartment. Do not exceed the maximum level mark. It will be automatically dispensed in the final rinse.
5. Add detergent Tips on dosing Adjust the detergent dosage to the level of soiling of the laundry and the size of the load. Reduce the amount of detergent with smaller loads (e.g. reduce the amount of detergent by ⅓ when washing a half load). Too little detergent: – Results in laundry not being cleaned properly and may cause it to become grey and hard to the touch over time. – Can lead to a build-up of mould in the washing machine. – Results in grease not being completely removed from the laundry.
5. Add detergent CapDosing Inserting a capsule Three different types of capsule are available: Open the detergent dispenser drawer. = Fabric care (e.g. fabric conditioner, proofing agent) = Additives (e.g. detergent enhancers) = Detergent (for the main wash only) Each capsule contains the correct amount for one wash cycle. You can order the capsules online at www.miele.co.uk or from Miele (see the end of this booklet for contact details). Open the lid of the / compartment.
5. Add detergent The wash programme will dispense the contents of the capsule at the correct time. Water intake to the compartment is solely via the capsule. No additional fabric conditioner may be added to the compartment when using a capsule. Remove the empty capsule at the end of the programme. Close the lid and press it firmly shut. Close the detergent dispenser drawer. The capsule is opened by the act of inserting it in the detergent dispenser drawer.
6. Start the programme - the end of a programme Starting a programme Touch the flashing Start/Stop sensor. The door will lock ( will appear in the display to show this) and the programme will start. Items left in the drum could discolour other items in the next wash or become discoloured themselves. Check that all items have been removed from the drum! If a delay start time has been selected, then this will count down in the time display.
Spinning Final spin speed in the programme Omitting the final spin (Rinse hold) When a programme is selected, the optimum spin speed for this wash programme is shown in the display. If Rinse hold is selected, the laundry remains in the water following the final rinse cycle. This helps prevent creasing if the laundry is not going to be removed from the drum immediately after the end of the programme. A faster spin speed can be selected for certain wash programmes.
