48-11-XXXX V™-technology Li-Ion Battery Pack
SUBJECT: water damage indicators – voided warranty
WARNING! NEVER ALLOW A BATTERY PACK TO BE IMMERSED IN WATER!
Milwaukee’s Limited Warranty does not cover a no-charge warranty adjustment on any battery pack which has been submerged and
exposed to water.
Determining a Water Damaged Battery Pack
Battery Packs have internal cells and connections that can become
corroded or ‘short-out’ when water enters the case through the battery
packs power connection terminal opening.
As with a vehicle that has
been submerged in water and has or had water in the engine cylinders,
causing damage when the engine is turned over;
the same can be said
of a Ni-Cd and V™-technology Li-Ion Battery Packs - a battery pack
that has been submerged in water will exhibit lower power and have
reduced capacity to be charged or become non functional.
Milwaukee battery packs have no serviceable internal components and
must therefore be replaced under such conditions.
By and large this condition can occur when a cordless Sawzall
®
is used
to cut pipe that contains water but, is not limited to this application or
tool – coming in contact with a heavy rain and a flooded tool box,
dropped into a puddle, etcetera can allow for water to enter into the
battery pack through the pack’s power terminal opening. To avoid problems, immediately remove a battery pack that has been
exposed to water and turn the battery pack on edge to expel any water present.
Determining if water in a battery pack is the reason for lower power, a reduced capacity to be charged or it being non-functional
can generally be seen by the tell-tale signs of mud/water stain on the outer shell of the pack, especially in the packs slide-on
connection area
(see photos)
. Additionally, when opening a pack
a water stain on the paper covering a cell can be seen along
with corrosion to internal terminals. In a few instances a water-line mark on the inside of the case can be found.
WARNING! NEVER ALLOW A BATTERY PACK TO BE IMMERSED IN WATER!
