48-11-1830 V18™, 48-11-2830 V28™ Lithium-Ion Battery Pack
SUBJECT: ‘bottom fuel gauge flashes once’ | battery pack SHUT DOWN protection |
battery must be placed on charger to be reset
Lithium-Ion Battery Pack Protection -
To protect the battery pack from damage and extend its
life, the battery pack’s intelligent circuit monitors current
draw and internal pack temperature.
In extremely high torque, binding, stalling or a short
circuit situation, the battery pack will turn itself and the
tool OFF if the current draw becomes too high. In
extremely high torque / high amp draw binding or
stalling situations, the tool will “buzz” for between
2 - 5 seconds alerting a user of the high amp draw
before it turns OFF. To prevent the tool from turning
OFF, immediately reduce the force being applied to the
work or release the trigger. If the tool does turn OFF,
release the trigger to reset. If a high torque / high amp
draw binding or stalling happens repeatedly, the battery
pack will SHUT DOWN and need to be placed on the
charger to reset. To determine if the battery pack has
SHUT DOWN and needs to be placed on the charger to
be reset, press the fuel gauge button; if the bottom
gauge flashes once, the battery must be reset by
placing it on its charger.
Under extreme circumstances – heavy loading, high
torque, binding, stalling, the internal temperature of the
battery can become high. If this happens, the battery
pack will SHUT DOWN and needs to be placed on the
charger to reset. Remove the battery pack from the tool
and place it on the charger to reset it. To determine if
the battery pack has SHUT DOWN and needs to be
placed on the charger to be reset, press the fuel gauge
button; if the bottom gauge flashes once, the battery
must be reset by placing it on its charger.
Within seconds of being place on a charger to
‘reset’, the pack fuel gauge lights will show the
battery packs capacity at the point of shut down;
one, two, three or all four lights lit.
Cold Weather Operation
MILWAUKEE Lithium-Ion battery pack can be used in temperatures down to -4°F. When the battery pack is very cold, put the
battery pack on a tool and use the tool in a light application
. It may “buzz” for a short time until it warms up. Use the tool normally
when the buzzing stops.
Fuel Gauge
Use the Fuel Gauge to determine the battery pack's remaining run time. Press the Fuel Gauge button to display the lights. The
Fuel Gauge light(s) will stay lit for two seconds.
NOTE: If the Fuel Gauge doesn't appear to be working, place the battery pack on
the charger and charge as needed. Unlike other battery pack types, MILWAUKEE
Lithium-Ion battery packs deliver fade-free power for their entire run time. The tool
will not experience a slow, gradual loss of power as you work. To signal that the
battery pack is at the end of its run time and needs to be charged, power to the tool
will drop quickly. When this happens, remove the tool from the work and charge
the battery pack as needed.
NOTE: Immediately after using the battery pack, the Fuel Gauge may display
a lower charge than it will if checked a minute or two later. The battery cells
"recover" some of their charge after resting.
