Defective or damaged batteries are subject to more stringent regulations extending as far as a complete
transport prohibition. A general transport prohibition applies to air transport (IATA Special Provision A154).
However, it must be pointed out that used but undamaged batteries are also subject to relevant special
regulations. Air transport of waste batteries and batteries shipped to recycling or disposal facilities is
prohibited (IATA Special Provision A183). Exceptions require the prior consent of the competent national
authorities of the country of origin and the country of the aviation company.
