THE GENERAL GRAPHICS AND THE MIDI OPTIONS DIALOG
BOXES
The MIDI Options Dialog Box and the General Graphics Options Dialog Box are the
essential elements of control in WaveWare. They are the means by which musical setups and
graphs of processed data are created and modified. In addition the General Graphics
Windows are responsible for exporting data as both ASCII and DDE streams. Both types of
dialog boxes have many features and deserve close scrutiny.
The two types of dialog boxes are separate. Changing the MIDI Options does not change the
General Graph. This allows a great deal of flexibility in designing configurations but
necessitates a certain amount of attention. If you have a MIDI and General Graph window
that are representing a similar signal characteristic, you may want to change one if you
change the other.
The settings for General Graph and MIDI will ordinarily be different. In the MIDI Output the
output parameters define the upper and lower thresholds of the MIDI output. In the General
Graph output they define the top and bottom of the Y-axis. Usually the General Graph output
has a wider range than the MIDI output. If the settings are the same, then the line goes off the
graph when the signal goes outside threshhold.
The MIDI Options Dialog Box and the General Graphics Options Dialog Box make use of
the same input algorithms. All input algorithms are displayed in all MIDI Options Dialog
Boxes, but only those input algorithms that match the use category of the selected General
Graphics Dialog Box are displayed. (e.g. Heart input algorithm is displayed in all MIDI
options dialog boxes, but is only displayed in heart General Graphics Dialog boxes).
This section is organized as follows: First a description of the fixed portions of the MIDI
Options Dialog Box and the General Graphics Options Dialog Box. Then each algorithm
will be described in turn.
