5.14 Water temperature 
A water temperature sensor is standard on the DWR-MkIII buoy models and optional on all 
other buoy models. The sensor is located in a pocket in the interior of the mooring eye in direct 
contact with the metal. In this way influences of the warmer topmost water layer and heat 
conduction from the sun lit top half of the buoy are minimized. Even the effect of marine 
growth is small due to the large contact area of the bottom half of the hull. Nevertheless, marine 
growth around the mooring eye should be removed for optimum measurements. In the DWR-
MkIII the temperature sensor signal is digitalized on the ADC module. The WR-SG and DWR-
G digitalize the signal already in the hull and pass on the reading via I
2
C. Water temperature 
measurement is available on both AISI316 stainless steel and Cunifer10 hulls. Specifications are 
listed in Table 5.14.1.
