Welcome Thank you for purchasing this Mio. Please read this manual carefully before using your Mio for the first time. Keep this manual in a safe place and use as your first point of reference. Important information for using the manual It is important to understand the terms and typographical conventions used in this manual.
Mounting your Mio in a vehicle CAUTION: Never mount your Mio where the driver’s field of vision is blocked. If the windscreen is tinted with a reflective coating, it may be athermic and impact the GPS reception. In this instance, please mount your Mio where there is a “clear area” - usually just beneath the rear-view mirror. To protect your Mio against sudden surges in current, connect the in-car charger only after the car engine has been started.
Enabling Traffic (TMC) Reception Note: Traffic information is not available on all models and is only available in selected countries. Depending on the model of your Mio you can receive live traffic information in one of two ways: z z If your Mio has a built-in TMC receiver, you can receive live traffic information* via the in-car charger which is used as an antenna. If your Mio does not have a built-in TMC receiver, you will need to install the TMC accessory kit (may be sold separately - see www.mio.

How do I turn on my Mio? Using the power switch z To turn on your Mio, slide the power switch to the ON position. To turn off your Mio, slide the power switch to the OFF position. Your Mio will enter a suspended state. When you next turn it on, your Mio will return to the last screen that you used. z To reset your Mio, slide the power switch to the RESET position.
How do I charge the battery? Your Mio has an internal battery that when fully charged, should provide power for up to 2 hours. The battery can take up to 4 hours to fully charge. Note: The battery may not be fully charged when you use your Mio for the first time. CAUTION: For optimal performance of the battery, note the following: Do not charge the battery when the temperature is high (e.g. in direct sunlight). There is no need to fully discharge the battery before charging.
How do I insert a memory card? CAUTION: Do not apply pressure to the centre of the memory card. S300 Series S500 Series S700 Series Hold the microSD™ card by the edges and gently insert it into the slot as shown in the above diagrams of your Mio. To remove a card, gently push the top edge of the card inwards to release it, then pull it out of the slot.
Other features How do I make a hands-free call? Note: Hands-free calling is not available on all models. If you have a mobile phone with Bluetooth wireless technology, you can use your Mio as a hands-free car kit. Before you can use this feature you must pair your mobile phone with your Mio. Note: Ensure that the Bluetooth wireless feature of your mobile phone is turned on before you begin pairing. Not all phones with Bluetooth wireless technology are compatible with your Mio.
How do I receive audio through my vehicle speakers? Note: FM transmitting and MP3 are not available on all models and are only available in selected countries. Your Mio can be set to transmit sound at a particular FM frequency which you can then receive through your vehicle radio. This means that you can hear map voice guidance, mp3 files and video files clearly and loudly through your vehicle speakers. WARNING: The FM transmitter function is not allowed to use in Cyprus, France and Greece.
Reference What is GPS? The Global Positioning System (GPS) is available at any time, free of charge, and is accurate to within 5m (15ft). GPS navigation is made possible by a network of satellites that orbit the Earth at around 20,200km (12,552mi). Each satellite transmits a range of signals which are utilised by GPS receivers, such as your Mio, to determine an exact location.
z z Never attempt to disassemble, repair or make any modifications to your Mio. Disassembly, modification or any attempt at repair could cause damage to your Mio and even bodily injury or property damage and will void any warranty. Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases or explosive materials in the same compartment as your Mio, its parts or accessories. Troubleshooting If you encounter a problem you cannot solve, contact an authorised service centre for assistance.

How do I use the touch screen? By default, your Mio starts in button mode, to scroll up or down, or dock/undock, use the buttons to the right of the main page. You can change to Slide Touch™ mode: tap Æ List Scrolling. In Slide Touch™ mode, your Mio touch screen options change dynamically: z To see all options on a menu, drag the screen up or down. z To display the next screen, tap an icon or select an option. z To dock a menu to the left, tap the left edge of the menu.
How do I get started? Note: The first time you use your Mio it may take several minutes to establish a GPS connection. How do I turn my Mio on for the first time? To get started for the first time, complete the following steps: 1. Read the Important Safety Information in the Hardware Manual. 2. Position your Mio in your vehicle according to the instructions in the Hardware Manual.
Main Menu The Main Menu is your starting point for searching for a destination. The Main Menu also allows you to customise your Mio, receive updated traffic information (not available on all models) and make and receive phone calls (not available on all models). To display the Main Menu, press on your Mio at any time. Display the Map screen. Undock the menu to enter an address to navigate to. Search Google online for live POI information. Search for places, areas and streets to help plan your route.
How do I go from A-B? Your Mio is equipped with maps that provide street-level detail for door-to-door navigation, including Points of Interest such as accommodation, parking areas, petrol stations, railway stations and airports. How do I plan my first trip? Using your Mio to plan your first trip is easy. There are several ways to select your destination. How do I set my route preferences? You can enhance your navigation experience by modifying aspects of your route and route calculations. 1. To set your Map screen preference, scroll down the screen and then tap the button in the Map section to select either a 3D or 2D view of the Map screen. 3. To change other preferences, tap Other Options. The Other Options screen will display. 4.
How do I search for a Point of Interest (POI)? A POI is a named site, feature, landmark or public venue which can be displayed as an icon on the map. How do I view my route? When a route has been calculated, the Map screen will display. Select the way you want to add a via point. When a new via point is added, your route will be recalculated. (See “How do I create a trip with multiple stops?” on page 26 for details.
How do I use the Explore map? The Explore map allows you to explore the local area to find Points of Interest (POIs) or navigate to an address. If you do not have a GPS fix, the map will display your last known position. Tap and drag the map to explore your desired area. POIs of the specified category will be displayed. Tap a POI for more information or navigate to the POI. 1. 2. Æ The Explore screen will display.
How do I navigate to a POI using the Explore map? Æ Æ Æ Æ Tapping on the POI selected (in red square) will bring up the Explore menu with the POI destination details. How do I navigate to a recent place? To make navigating to an address easier, your Mio will automatically save all your start locations and destinations in a list of recent places. 1. Æ The Create a Route screen will display. 2. From the Create a Route screen tap Recent Places. 3. Select a recent place from the list. Tip: You can sort your recent places by date, category type or alphabetical order. 4. Your route is calculated and the Overview screen will display.
How do I preview a route? Route demonstration allows you to: z Preview a route. z Plan and view a route without a GPS fix, such as when you are inside a building. The following steps will show you how to preview a route. 1. Select a departure point. Note: If you have a GPS fix, you do not need to select a departure point unless you want the demonstrated route to start elsewhere. a) Æ The Create a Route screen will display. b) Tap From. The Leaving from… screen will display.
How do I view my route statistics? Your Mio provides information on your: z distance to go z time to go z estimated time of arrival z average speed To view your route statistics during a planned route: 1. Æ The Overview screen will display. 2. Tap to switch to the Stats screen.
My Places My Places has all your saved and captured locations. It also contains POIs and NavPix™ you have downloaded onto your Mio via MioMore Desktop. How do I save a location as My Place? 1. Search for an address until the Preview screen is displayed. 2. Tap to save the location as My Place. The location icon will become red on the map and the create date/time will display. 3. How do I navigate to a location I have saved? 1. Æ The My Places screen will display. 2. Tap the favourite destination you want to travel to. The Preview screen will display. 3. Tap . Your Mio will calculate the route from your current location. The Map screen will display. How do I navigate to Home? If you have not set an address as Home, the first time you try to navigate to Home you will be prompted to search for an address using the address-entry wizard. 1. How do I delete a saved location? 1. Æ The My Places screen will display. 2. Select the location you would like to delete. The Preview screen will display. 3. Tap Delete. The location is deleted. The My Places screen will display. How do I navigate to a NavPix™? Note: NaxPix™ images may also be referred to geocoded pictures. NavPix™ is an image or picture, normally of a location, which contains embedded GPS coordinates that you can navigate to. Sample NavPix™ images may be pre-installed on your Mio.

How do I capture a location or a journey? Note: The capture feature is not available on all models. Your Mio has a capture feature which allows you to record GPS coordinates of a location, capture a location with a voice recording and capture a journey and save them so you can navigate back at a later time. How do I capture the GPS coordinates of my location? 1. Æ The Capture screen will display. 2. Tap Save. The location is saved as My Place. How do I capture a location with a voice recording? 1.
2. Travel on your journey. Your Mio will keep a record of where you travel. 3. Æ At the end of your journey, The Capture screen will display. 4. Tap 5. Tap Save. The journey is saved as My Place. . The Journey screen will display. How do I navigate to a location I have captured? 1. Æ The My Places screen will display. 2. Tap the captured destination you want to travel to. How do I create a trip with multiple stops? You can use the New Via Point screen to set multiple stops or via points (waypoints) for your trip. Your route will be calculated to go via each of these points in the specified order. 1. Æ The Create a Route screen will display. 2. Tap From and set a location as your departure point. You can set a location as a departure point using Home, My Places, Find a Place, Recent Places or Pick on Map.
How do I delete a via point from my trip? To delete a via point from your trip, tap the undock button or tap the docked menu in Slide Touch™ mode, and then to switch to the Turns screen. Tap the via point you want to delete, then tap Delete Via Point. When a via point is deleted, your route will be recalculated.
How do I play media? Note: Media is not available for all models and is only available in some countries. Media allows you to play stored audio files installed on your Mio. You can use MioMore Desktop to import audio files to your Mio. (See the MioMore Desktop Manual for more information.) Æ Playing audio files Only mp3, wma, wav, aac audio formats are supported for the audio feature. You can play audio files that are stored on your Mio by a random order, artist and albums.

How do I receive a phone call? How do I add a contact to my Mio? Your Mio uses contacts created on your mobile phone. To add a new contact to your Mio, you must first add it to your mobile phone. The city guides provide information on accommodation, dining, night life, business essentials, shopping, important tourist spots and practical information such as banks, medical centres, bus stations etc.

Tap Accept. 2.

To use MioMore Service, you must pair your Mio with your mobile phone. If your Mio isn’t paired with your mobile phone then the Bluetooth screen will display.

Your Mio can receive current traffic information for all main roads and motorways, enabling you to avoid potential delays on your route. Event messages and traffic icons will display as they occur.

How do I avoid an event on my route? Æ 1. Tap to switch to the Turns screen. 2. When a traffic event occurs on your route, the section of the route affected is marked with an event icon. 3. Tap the section you want to avoid. 4. From the Turn Details screen tap Avoid this Turn. Your route will be recalculated.
Walking mode Note: Walking mode is not available on all models. Walking mode allows you to navigate to your destination using roads and paths appropriate for a pedestrian, including non-vehicle segments. Note: When in Walking mode, you will not be routed onto motorways and their associated slip roads. If your destination is more than 10 kilometres (6.3 miles) away, a warning message is displayed indicating that the route is a long way to walk.
What can I customise? There are various customisation options available to enhance your navigation experience. Æ Volume Complete the following: If you want to ... Traffic and other TMC events Each TMC event is sorted in to one of nine categories. When an event is received, one of the following icons will display: Event Message Type Event Description Closed A section of the route has been closed and no entry permitted. Danger There is a dangerous situation on the route; for example, people are on the road. Queue Any event that will cause a delay on a route. Weather Weather conditions are adversely affecting a route; for example, there is ice on the road.

Welcome Thank you for purchasing this MioMore Desktop software. Please read this manual carefully before using MioMore Desktop for the first time. Keep this manual in a safe place and use as your first point of reference. Important information for using the manual It is important to understand the terms and typographical conventions used in this manual.
What is MioMore Desktop? MioMore Desktop is a suite of tools you can use to access greater functionality and product information via your computer.
MioMore Desktop menu Note: Not all features are available on all models. The total number of buttons shown on the left side of the window varies by model. Some features are disabled when your Mio is not connected. Note: Before you transfer any data to and from your Mio, make sure that your Mio is connected to your computer via the USB table. n o p q r s t u v w Component Description n Menu bar Access basic MioMore Desktop functionality. o My Maps Install and manage maps.

Then ... change your device preferences click the Device tab and change the following preferences for your Mio: z z z Device name (for display in MioMore Desktop) Language Voice Click Save to save your changes. change your language preferences for MioMore Desktop click the Desktop tab and select the desired option in the Desktop Language section. keep MioMore Desktop updated click the Desktop tab and select the Check for updates automatically checkbox.
How do I use the map screen? When using MioMore Desktop applications including Speed Cameras, EXPLORE, GO, FIND, MY PLACES and TRAVEL BOOKS, you will see a map screen displayed like below. p q n r o n Component Description Map Right-click anywhere on the map to show the following options: z z z z z Zoom in, Zoom out Centre map here Explore this area (See “Explore” on page 13 for details.) My Maps My Maps allows you to install new maps, update existing maps, remove maps from your Mio and purchase new maps. MioMore Desktop Æ My Maps n o Component Description n My Maps A list of maps stored on your computer and your Mio. You can sort maps by name, size or storage option. o Maps Library A list of maps available for purchase via the Mio e-shop website. You can sort maps by name, date or size. To purchase maps, click Buy Maps.
Note: Removing maps from your Mio does not remove maps from your computer. To delete the map data stored on your computer select the map and click at the bottom. Click Yes to confirm. Note: You can change the location of where downloaded maps and map updates will be saved. See “General preferences” on page 6 for details.
Speed Cameras Note: Safety camera information is only available for selected countries. Your Mio contains pre-loaded safety camera information. You can purchase the latest safety camera subscriptions on the Mio e-shop website and install onto your Mio via MioMore Desktop. MioMore Desktop Æ Speed Cameras n o Component Description n Speed Cameras A list of safety cameras stored on your computer and your Mio. You can sort locations by name or storage option.
From the menu bar click File Æ Import Æ Speed Cameras. 2. Navigate and select a file you want to transfer. 3. Click Open. The selected file is imported and listed in the Speed Cameras panel. 4. To transfer the safety camera onto your Mio, select the on device checkbox. Tip: You can also right-click an item and select Show on device to transfer the item to your Mio; select Show all on device to transfer multiple selected items at a time.
Explore Explore allows you to explore an area to find Points of Interest (POIs). MioMore Desktop Æ EXPLORE n Component n POIs o Description A list of POIs around the selected area. You can sort POIs by type or name. Note: A POIs saved as My Place is displayed in red colour. o Display area Display the selected POI on the map. How do I filter POIs on the map? The POIs panel always displays nearby POIs of all categories. You can sort POIs by type or name.
If you want to ... Then ... edit the POI notes click the notes field. Enter new notes or edit the existing notes. The POI notes are changed in both MioMore Desktop and your Mio. How do I import a POI onto my Mio? Note: You are only allowed to transfer a POI saved as My Place. 1. Select a POI to display the location summary pop-up. 2. Select Add to My Places to save the POI as My Place. The POI icon will become red. 3. From the location summary pop-up select Show on device.
Go Go allows you to pre-plan your trip and import the routes onto your Mio. MioMore Desktop Æ GO n o Component Description n Route planner Plan a route by entering From point and To point. A list of planned routes will display in the Pre-planned Routes section. o Display area Display the route on the map. Tip: You can also right-click on the map to set your From point and To point. How do I pre-plan a route? 1. To open the Go screen, click the GO button or File Æ New Æ Routes on the menu bar.
Avoidance Avoid Highways, Toll Roads or Ferries in your route. Note: The Mode and Route options settings will only apply to the route you are editing. 5. Click Plan to calculate your route. The route will be displayed on the map. 6. Click Save this route. The route is saved to the Pre-planned Routes section. How do I import a route onto my Mio? From the Pre-planned Routes section, select the on device checkbox next to the route, or right-click the route and select Show on device.
Find Find allows you to search for a location by keyword, address or postcode. MioMore Desktop Æ FIND n o Component Description n Find Search for a location by keyword, address or postcode. The search results will display below. You can sort the results by type or name. o Display area Display the selected location on the map. How do I find a location? You can find a location by keyword ( ), address ( ) or postcode ( ). 1.
My Places My Places allows you to view all places that you have saved on your Mio. My Places includes saved addresses, captured journeys and sound, Points of Interest, NavPix™, and other locations. You can select, modify and delete places. MioMore Desktop Æ MY PLACES n o Component Description n My Places A list of My Place items stored on your computer and your Mio. You can sort the items by type, name, date or storage option. o Display area Display the selected location on the map.
3. Your friend will receive the email with links to either save the image or to save the location as My Place in MioMore Desktop. If the location is a NavPix™ (or a geocoded picture), your friend will receive the image as an attachment to the email. If the location is a captured journey, your friend will receive the journey as a .KMZ file attached to the email. Your friend will need to have Google Earth installed on the computer to view the KMZ file.
My Mio Overview MioMore Desktop Æ MY MIO Æ Overview Note: The Overview screen is also the default front page when you start MioMore Desktop. When your Mio is connected to your computer, the Overview screen will display basic information about your Mio, including model name, map date, device settings, memory configuration (of both your Mio and memory card) and mileage report. You can change your Mio and MioMore Desktop preferences by clicking Preferences. (See “General preferences” on page 6 for details.
To start the update, click Download. When the download is complete, click Apply to apply the updates to your map or software. To update all items on the list, click Update all. Backup/Restore You can save backups of data from your Mio, and later restore it if required. MioMore Desktop Æ MY MIO Æ Backup/Restore How do I backup my Mio? 1. Enter a name for your backup if needed. 2. Select the data you would like to backup. 3. Click Backup.
Reinstallation MioMore Desktop Æ MY MIO Æ Reinstallation If you lost your license key, click Recover License Key to retrieve license key from the server. If you want to reinstall the Spirit software onto your Mio, click Reinstall Software. Follow the prompts to complete the process.
Music Music allows you to import music (.wav, .mp3, .wma) and video files onto your Mio. MioMore Desktop Æ MUSIC o n Component Description n Folders A list of folders containing playlists stored on your computer and your Mio. Click an item to display its contents in the display area. o Display area Displays music or video files from the selected folder. Click All music/All videos to view all music/video files in your MioMore Desktop library.
How do I transfer a music file from MioMore Desktop to my Mio? 1. From the display area select a music file. 2. Select the on device checkbox. The selected music file is transferred to your Mio. Tip: You can also right-click and select Show on device to transfer the file to your Mio. How do I remove a music file from my MioMore Desktop playlist? 1. From the Folders panel select a playlist to display its contents in the display area. 2. Select the file you want to remove.
If you want to ... Then ... rename a media file or playlist right-click the file and select Rename or Rename playlist to edit the name. play a media file from the display area double click the file you want to preview. Tip: You can also select the file and right-click Play.
Travel Books Note: Travel Books is not available on all models and is only available for selected countries. Travel Books is a collection of city guides that provide detailed Points of Interest maps for major cities in Europe. The city guides provide information on accommodation, dining, night life, business essentials, shopping, important tourist spots and practical information such as banks, medical centres, bus stations, etc. You can use MioMore Desktop to download Travel Books and import onto your Mio.
