A CHAPTER TWO Connecting YourVCR Now that you're familiar with some of your VCR's features, you're ready to connect the antenna and the televi,;ien. You won't have to complete all of the connections you see in this chapter -- make only those connections that apply to your equipment. You should keep in mind that there are two steps you need to take to connect your VCR: first, connect the antenna or cable to the VCR, then connect the VCR to the telev:ision.

This will not only allow you to record TV programs coming from the receiver, but it will allow you to control the receiver through the VCR. connectinga satellitereceiver To connect the satellite receiver, you will need an S-Video cable and one stereo audio cable. You can purchase, these cables at your Mitsubishi dealer or at your local electronics store.
O _>Important: Connect an S-Video cable to the S-Video output terminal on the receiver; connect the other end of tt:Le cable to the terminal on the rear of the VCR ]abeled S-VIDEO IN. If possible, you should have connected your VCR to your TV with an S-Video cable. Not only will this provicle you with a better picture, but it will allow you to watch the satellite video signal on your TV even when the VCR is off.

Even when the VCR POWER is off, loading a tape will automatically turn the VCR on. Use only tapes that have a _ label or an S_ label. O Hold the tape so that the long narrow edge with the contents label faces towards you. The other edge is hinged and should face towards the VCR. The plastic window that shows the videotape should face up.
PlayingaTape Now that your VCR is connected and properly set up, and you know how to view a picture coming from your VCR, it's time to play a tape. The index light (T) will flash on the fluorescent display, and an on-screen message will indicate that the mark is being recorded. !>Important: Index marks are not added when you press PAUSE recording from the record-pause mode.

Chapter4: UsingtheAdvancedFeatures Makinga Copyof a Tape There are two basic ways to make a copy of a tape. One way is to use the HS-U760 to play a tape and use another VCR to record. The other way is to use another VCR to play a tape and the HS-U760 to record. Whichever method you choose, you will need one RCA audio cable and one RCA video cable (or one S-Video cable) to connect the two VCRs. If you do not have these cables, they are available at your local electronics retailer.
O O O If you attached the connection cables to the back of the HS-U760, use the INPUT button to set the HS-U760 to External 1 (L1). If you attached the cables to the front of the HS-U760, use the INPUT button to set the HS-U760 to External 2 (L2). O Put the tape you wart to copy into the other VCR and find the place from whic:h you want to begin copying. Press STOP. @ On the HS-U760, @ On the other VCR, press PLAY, then PAUSE. @ Release the PAUSE the same time.

In addition, the on-screen displays will not appear, so they won't be accidentally copied onto your new tape. Locate the point where you want recording to begin, press PAUSE, then RECORD. Press the PLAY button. Your HS-U760 automatically rewinds a short way and then begins to play back. (This function, called "preroll," allows the HS-U760 to get up to speed before the edit begins, resulting in cleaner edits.
