Rough Opening Tips
Verify the width and height of the door frame are each 1/2 smaller
than the rough opening width/height.
Verify the rough opening is square. The diagonal measurements
should be the same. Maximum allowable deviation from square is
normally 1/4.
Verify the rough opening is level and plumb. The maximum allowable
deviation is 1/8 to 1/4.
What is my Door Handing?
For interior double or French doors there are 3 handing options to
choose from: left-hand active, right-hand active and both active. For
left and right-hand active doors, both panels can be opened but only
the active door will have a working knob. The passive door will
have an astragal with a flush bolt that is used to keep the door closed
when desired. If a door is both active this means that neither door
will have a working knob and there will be ball catches installed on
the top edge of each door to keep the doors closed.
