3.3 The First Camera Image and the Most Important Settings
Once the camera has been connected to the network, you need to set up the cam-
era's network interface accordingly. This step involves setting up and checking the
network parameters of the camera.
If your network or your computer is already running on a 10.x.x.x network with a
255.0.0.0 network mask) you do not need to change the camera's network
parameters, which means that you can directly access the camera (see sec-
tion3.3.2). If your computer does not use an IP address in the 10.x.x.x network
(e.g. a 192.168.x.x or 172.x.x.x network), you should follow one of the following
methods for changing the camera's network parameters:
• Manual setup (sections3.3.1 and 3.3.2)
• Automatic setup using MxControlCenter or MxEasy (see sections3.3.3 and
3.3.4)
3.3.1 Manually Setting Up the Network Interface of the Camera
In order to manually set up the network parameters of the MOBOTIX camera, you
need a computer that is using a 10.x.x.x IP address. It is recommended to connect
the camera to the computer or to a switch. If possible, no other network devices
should be connected at the same time.
1) Determine the network parameters of your computer:
Open a command shell (Windows) or a terminal (Linux/UNIX/OSX) and enter
the following command:
• Windows 2000/XP/Vista: ipconfig
• Linux/UNIX and OSX: ifconfig
You will find the IP address of your computer behind IP address (Windows
2000/XP/Vista) or behind the eth0 or en0 device (Linux/UNIX and OSX).
2) Change the network parameters of your computer:
• Windows 2000/XP/Vista:
(1) Open the Network Connections and open the Properties of LAN
Connection.
(2) Double-click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
(3) On the General tab, activate the Use the following IP address option.

For the following examples, we will use a camera with the factory IP
address 10.1.0.99. Replace this IP address with the IP address of your
camera. You will find this address on a small sticker on the camera.
Hint: Pressing the "R" key on the camera will let the camera announce
the current IP address of the camera on the loudspeaker.
