Conguring with Disk Utility
G DOCK
ev
with Thunderbolt™
Supported Media Congurations
The Evolution Series G-DOCK ev is user congurable and can be used in:
JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Drives) conguration, or
RAID 0 (Performance) stripped across two G-DRIVE ev Hard drives, or
RAID 1 (Protected) in which data is mirrored from one drive to the other.
These congurations are initiated and managed by utilizing the Mac OS Disk Utility.
G-DOCK ev is pre-congured during manufacturing to operate in a JBOD conguration.
The sections of this user guide, Set Up as RAID 0 and Set Up as RAID 1, give you the
general steps for conguring your G-DOCK ev. For additional information, please visit
www.g-technology.com/support; or Apple’s support site RAID User Guide; or the Disk
Utility Help Center in the Disk Utility application.
Set Up as JBOD
G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt has been congured at the factory in a Just a
Bunch of Drives (JBOD) conguration. This conguration supports both ev
hard drive modules as separate volumes on your system.
About RAID Sets
A Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) lets you combine multiple disks so they
work as one disk. Depending on how you combine the disks, the RAID set can protect
your data against hardware failure, speed up access to your data, or increase your stor-
age capacity.
