AM700 Audio Measurement Set User Manual
4-1
Applications
This section of the User Manual describes the many audio applications and user-
selectable features available with the AM700.
Audio Generator
The AM700 includes both Analog and Digital test signal generators. Each generator
can send user-configurable waveforms over two channels or subframes. The analog
generator offers two user-selectable modes of operation: high resolution and high
bandwidth. In high resolution mode, the generator can produce independent true
stereo waveforms. In high bandwidth mode, both channels output the same signal.
The analog generator has these capabilities:
True Stereo Operation. In high resolution mode, for frequencies up to 20 kHz, the
generator has true stereo operation. Output A and Output B can produce different
signals types at the same time. In high bandwidth mode, for frequencies up to 80
kHz, identical signals are produced from Output A and Output B.
Output Signal Selection. The analog generator produces the following output
signals: Sine, Tone Burst, SMPTE IMD, CCIF IMD, Shaped Noise, Chirp, Polarity,
Tek Polarity, User, or Multitone. These are described in more detail later in this
section.
The digital generator offers these capabilities:
True Stereo Operation. The digital generator provides true stereo operation. The
digital generator drives the front-panel digital, rear-panel optical, and rear-panel
unbalanced outputs with the same signals.
Output Signals. Within the constraints of the digital sample rate range (27 kHz -
55 kHz) the digital generator can produce all signals listed for the analog generator
plus the jittered sine signal used in the Digital Interface Tester. You can define the
digital audio sample length from 8 to 24 bits.
