time required to acquire the record increases a small amount, but you benefit from
the improved flexibility in constructing a detectable multitone signal.
The Output check boxes are on the right side of the Generator Selection display (see
Figure 4-2). Touch an Output check box to switch on or off the output of the
selected generator. When the generator is switched on using the front-panel On
button, outputs from enabled generators are sent to the front- and rear-panel
generator outputs.
You may want to disable the output of a particular generator, for example, to
generate silence in a channel when measuring crosstalk or separation. A disabled
generator also does not run when the front-panel Sweep button is pressed to start all
enabled sweeps. This is a good way to make sure only the needed sweep or sweeps
run when using sweep test signals.
Touch the AES or DSP generator selection soft key to select the digital generator
mode. AES is the more common operating mode for the digital generator, since it
causes the generator to produce AES/EBU output.
In DSP mode, generator output exits the AM700 from a special connector on the
rear panel. The DSP output is compatible only with specific equipment. It can be
used, for example, to test compatible off-platform D-to-A components.
NOTE. Placing the generator in DSP mode also causes digital acquisition to enter
DSP mode. In this mode the AM700 receives data from its DSP input rather than the
AES/EBU digital input.
You can connect a compatible digital microphone or other compatible digital signal
source directly to the DSP Port connector for processing. The external device
supplies the sampling rate, but the port should only be used at one of the standard
three sampling rates of the AM700: 33, 44.1 or 48 kHz. Also, the sampling rate on
the external equipment must not be switched while the AM700 is in DSP mode.
