Automatic Timing. When auto timing the sweep, the dwell times are calculated and
set for the fastest sweep time possible based on the step frequency. Higher
frequencies are acquired more quickly than lower frequencies, so dwell times for the
high end of the sweep are shorter than those at the low end of the sweep. With
Automatic Timing enabled, the number of points can be set, but the dwell and time
settings are disabled.
Points per Sweep, Point Dwell, and Total Time. Points per Sweep, Dwell, and Time
parameters are interactive. If you enter any two of the three values, the AM700
calculates the third. In a sweep, the number of pause points and the dwell time at
each point are most important. For this reason, when setting up a sweep, you will
typically enter the number of points and the dwell, allowing the AM700 to calculate
total sweep time. Automatic Timing adjusts Point Dwell time based on the
frequency of the dwell point to produce the fastest possible sweep time that still
obtains settled data at each dwell point.
When set to independent operation, both channels of every generator can have a
voltage sweep, a frequency sweep, or a combined voltage and frequency sweep. If
Analog B is set to follow A then the Analog channels will both use the same Analog
A list. If the Digital channels are also set to Follow Analog, then both analog and
both digital generators use the same list for generating a sweep.
NOTE. The exception to this is that the analog high bandwidth Channel B generator
can only be set to Follow A. The two generator outputs cannot be used to generate
separate high bandwidth outputs.
Mode selections for Voltage or Frequency are Fixed (CW for Frequency mode),
Sweep, or List. List mode allows you to define, with the List Editor, a list of
frequencies, amplitudes, and dwell times that the AM700 steps through during the
sweep. Lists, which can be up to 128 steps in length, offer a way to create a test
sequence that is more flexible than a sweep.
Creating or editing a voltage or frequency list is done by bringing up the List Editor
and editing, adding, or removing one or more points on the list and saving the list.
You apply the list as the test sequence by selecting List in the Voltage Mode or the
Frequency Mode menu of the Waveform Control display.
